He was a heartland heartthrob: a Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor winner in Vietnam; a self-made millionaire; a brainy governor whose approval rating topped 70 percent; a Democrat who won a landslide election to the Senate in a year when Michael Dukakis failed to get even 40 percent of Nebraskas vote for president. Oh, and he dated one of the biggest movie stars of the day, Debra Winger.
Now, after living in New York City for more than 10 years, Kerrey has returned and is trying to win back his old Senate seat. But it has been nearly two decades since his name last appeared on the general-election ballot in Nebraska, and his past glories here are as faded as those old campaign T-shirts. Even Leistritz said she does not know whether she will vote for him.
At the moment, Kerrey is running well behind a state senator, Deb Fischer, who stunned the Nebraska political establishment by defeating two better-funded and better-known candidates in the Republican primary in May.

Many people make that mistake.
I’ve got 16 years of service and I used to make that mistake, too.
Clearly with the MOH it shows he has great physical courage, but from his voting record, very little moral courage.
I do volunteer work for the Fischer campaign and the Democrats have nothing to offer except a lame “grazing subsidies” attack which the gov’t has been offering for years to all farmers/ranchers.
...and it ain’t sticking...it’s backfiring.
Kerry realizes that it’s not 1992 anymore. Things have changed. We now have social media, a new generation of voters who know almost nothing of Kerry, a Tea Party, a large (engergised) conservative base and Sarah Palin. All he’s got are his past glories (but a microscope reveals a liberal voting record) and “throw something against the wall until it sticks” attacks.
...and it ain’t working...he’s floundering.
Polls have Kerry anywhere from 18-25 points behind. Outside the Omaha metro, Deb’s got a solid base in the central/western parts of Nebraska. She’s focusing on the high GOP centers now. Bolstering her efforts are large superpacs spending lots of money for her benefit.

According to Obama, there are no ‘self-made’ millionaires.
” She sounds like a snot. “
She would say “naso-pharyngeal mucosal mass”.
Or “booger”.
Skeletor gonna lose soooo baaaaadd......
Deb Fischer, Kerrey’s challenger, rode in on the backs of the Tea Party to win the primary. Tea Party enthusiasm will lead her to a double digit defeat of Kerrey.
This seat was going GOP no matter who won the primary and who the Rat candidate was, but it’s great to have a solid conservative like Fischer going to DC.
What is with this woman?
Midwesterners have their own language???
Midwesterners do not worry??? They do not suffer from guilt???
What in the sam hill is she talking about?? Should Midwesterners suffer from guilt??? What kind of guilt??? Do only New Yorkers such as her know what people should be guilty about??? What the heck????
His wife is not going to win him any votes that’s for sure.
As far as not feeling guilt, it's just more Liberal pin-head speak. Liberal elitists have this "guilt" complex for being successful when there are homelessness and starving children. They measure their compassion by a colored ribbon pinned to their lapel.
Every day, normal Nebraskans don't feel guilt or sympathy for the welfare queens and able bodied slobs collecting welfare and food stamps.
And as far as worrying, Midwesterners are realistic. We aren't filled with doom over global warming or any other made up fraud that comes along.
It’s not happening. I read that Mrs. Kerrey made a remark about Nebraska that irked the locals, not that it’ll change the outcome as a whole.
