ABC News reporter Brian Ross committed what used to be a fatal mistake to a journalists career: He blurted out a wild, unsubstantiated, speculative observation that hadnt been vetted by anyone and was explosively political at the same time.
Via Breitbart:
Here is the exchange between ABC News chief investigator Brian Ross and host George Stephanopoulos about apparent suspect James Holmes:
Stephanolpoulos: Im going to go to Brian Ross. Youve been investigating the background of Jim Holmes here. You found something that might be significant.
Ross: Theres a Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado, page on the Colorado Tea party site as well, talking about him joining the Tea Party last year. Now, we dont know if this is the same Jim Holmes. But its Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado.
Stephanolpoulos: Okay, well keep looking at that. Brian Ross, thanks very much.
Thanks for what? Ross just tried to connect the Tea Party to the murder of 12 innocents based on the thinnest of speculation: that the name on the website almost matched the name of the suspect.
The political implications of the attempted smear were dynamite. And yet, the casual manner in which Ross reported this fact even with a fig leaf caveat was shocking. No attempt was made to confirm anything.
There used to be a time when journalists had a rough integrity about what they said over the air and took pride in striving for accuracy. Who could ever forget ABCs Frank Reynolds, ABC News anchorman, who, after receiving and announcing word that James Brady had been killed in the Reagan assassination attempt only to discover the press secretary was still alive, got visibly angry and to no one in particular barked on air, Lets get this right. Lets nail this down.

Why just Ross? It’s Stephanopoulos ‘s show. He knew ahead of time what Ross was going to say.
That's a rhetorical question since most of us know the answer is that behind every double standard lies an unconfessed single standard.
It’s Ross, Stephanopoulos, and show’s producer (who allowed it to happen) are all at fault.
Yet Rush’s “Slut” comment, wow. Note the contrast
This is why we need to keep the pressure on ABC et al. Run the bastards off. Give them tastes of their own Rx.
Why is ABC still allowed to broadcast “news”?
The “networks’ no longer serve up news.
It’s all about cheap shots, propaganda packaged as news, and polls generated to sway opinion.
Brian and the rest will likely get raises instead.
In this case, they overachieved.. and will get bonuses too.
Only what they make up themselves and called it news.
I’ve scraped things off the bottom of my shoe that have more brains and integrity then these hoodlums.
I think the question should be asked by everyone on this board every day forward.
Send it to ABC News “comments.”
Can Jim Holmes sue ABC and Bryan Ross personally gor big bucks?
I suggest a slander suit by the TEA PARTY of America for $100 million would stop this propaganda in the future!! This was outrageous. Yes he shoud be fired and both he and ABC need to Lawyer up!!
There has been speculation that Holmes is a Muslim and solid evidence the he he is a member of OWS.
With that background, it is virtually impossible that he would be a Tea Party Member.
Are we going to have another so-called memorial service with t-shirts and a hooping and hollering audience?
[”Gabby opened her eyes!” And all not took was the presence of Dear Leader for her eyes to open and begin healing.]
Rule 4: Make opponents live up to their own book of rules. You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity.
.
ABC = Anything But Correctness.
This is resume enhancement for ABC and the like.
They love mistruth.
ABC = Anything But Correctness.
Because he apologized? That is all it takes.
“He blurted out a wild, unsubstantiated, speculative observation...”

I disagree with that statement.
Brian Ross didn’t “blurt” anything out. His “investigative reporting” was a well-thought out hit piece against a tea party member.
Yesterday, I sent an e-mail to ABC slamming their politically biased reporting, and demanded Ross’ firing. I further stated I hoped the wrongly accused James Holmes sued the pants off of Ross, Stephanopoulos and ABC.
Brian Ross is ABC’s Andrea Peyser.
Isn’t this the same Brian Ross who advocates sexually abusing animals and little children? It must be, because the name Brian Ross is so uncommon.
