A friend of mine is an orthopedist.....his practice no longer accepts medicaid and after health care from hell is passed I doubt they will accept medicare.....reason being- poor reimbursement.........they will be reducing hip and knee replacement surgery reimbursement by 29% this fall and cutting reimbursements to all docs across the board by 12% in January ......his speciality is hip and knee surgery.......and his outcomes are hard to beat but RNs make more money than he does.....

Yeah, well for thirty years (1970-2000) Medicare paid doctors (especially procedural specialists and surgeons) very, very well indeed.

They were delighted to slurp contentedly at the federal trough.

Now that reimbursements are being cut back, they're all undergoing sudden and unexpected conversions to free marketeers......

Average W-2 income for an orthopedist in America is about 500k.
