Documents: Romney didn't manage Bain funds
Fortune (CNN) ^ | July 12, 2012 | Dan Primack

FORTUNE -- Mitt Romney did not manage Bain Capital's investments after leaving to run the Salt Lake City Olympic Games, according to confidential firm documents obtained by Fortune.

The timing of Romney's departure from Bain became a lightning rod earlier today, when The Boston Globe published an article suggesting that Romney remained actively involved with the firm longer than he and his campaign have claimed. The sourcing is largely SEC documents that list Romney as Bain Capital's CEO and sole shareholder through 2002 -- or three years after Romney officially left to run the Salt Lake City Olympic Games.

These claims are very similar to ones made last week by David Corn in Mother Jones, which we disputed at the time.

Now Fortune has obtained new evidence that supports Romney's version of events.

Bain Capital began circulating offering documents for its seventh private equity fund in June 2000. Those documents include several pages specifying fund management. The section begins:

Set forth below is information regarding the background of the senior private equity investment professionals of Bain Capital. Also listed are certain investment professionals responsible for the day-to-day affairs of the Brookside and Sankaty funds, which are affiliated funds of Fund VII.

It then goes on to list 18 managers of the private equity fund. Mitt Romney is not among them. Same goes for an affiliated co-investment fund, whose private placement memorandum is dated September 2000.

Then there is Bain Capital Venture Fund -- the firm's first dedicated venture capital effort -- whose private placement memorandum is dated January 2001. Romney also isn't listed among its "key investment professionals," or as part of its day-to-day operations or investment committee.

All of this could prove problematic for the Obama campaign, which has spent the day crowing over the Globe story...

Dennis Miller said of Nancy Pelosi “She’s bat insane. She sleeps upside down.” That could be said about the entire staff of the Boston Globe.

Did I just hear some Democratic shill say that Romney is running one of the most secretive campaigns of anyone in history. He suggested that Romney release his documents from Bain. I could see a trade off of “I’ll show you mine if you show me yours” in the making.

This from a “President” who to this day, STILL has not released his birth certificate.

Obama goofed.

Now it’s too late for him to (pretend) to have covered anything at all, about his own background.

"and so what if he did"

Yep. If you take it to its logical conclusion, it would mean that Romney was working 100+ hours per week running the Olympics... while also somehow finding the time to run a successful hedge fund, and be a family man. At that same point in time, Obama was a back-bencher in the Illinois Senate, avidly attending the sermons of a prominent Jewish-hater...

This is starting to get funny.
The one who won't release anything is squealing that Romney is hiding something?
ZERO is getting despirate.
There is so much about ZERO we still don't know.
Place of Birth.
Using a phony social security number?
Foreign student in college? (Transcripts will clear that up)

This is nothing. Romney will be framed as a Bernie Maddoff figure by the time the Chicago thugs get through with him.

I wonder if Romney still thinks Obama is a “nice guy?”

Romney needs to jump on this. It may be nothing factually, but appearances trump facts every time. We're dealing with a Hitleresque "Big Lie."

And yet, we see which side of the isle the the LSM chooses to cover. Romney needs to ask that question next time he is asked about hiding something. I'd pay to see the reaction.

I don’t think that originated with Alinsky (he would never have been that original a thinker).

As I recall, Lenin once said:

“Always accuse your enemies of doing what you are doing.”

This Obama campaign is turning the presidential race into a gruesome Chicago gangland killing. Not a word about the gutter politics in the media, as they have given their silent consent to this orgy of lies and distortion.

It used to be that ‘negative’ brought tremendous scorn on those mudslingers - now the press is a loyal ally in one of the ugliest campaigns in presidential history. The media will never attack Obama for being negative - because they are so committed to his winning the election that they have buried any and all journalistic integrity that they talk about but never really had.

There needs to be a bigger discussion of this historic event on Obama and the media’s role. They are in league in this nefarious work and no one is calling them on it, no one dares discuss it!

Where is the presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, to comment on this outstandingly hostile and negative campaign. Obama has nothing to talk about except for negative attacks on Romney. Is this what “we have been waiting for”, this is the new Jesus of politics? This is the New Politics? Obama is a struggling, unqualified, rookie Chicago pol, over-promoted, who owns a home given to him by a felon, and cannot stop himself from the involuntary hyper reflex of lying about his opponent! Where is the change we were hoping for? Where is the messianic figure that Chris Matthews was weeping about?

This desperation will bring an unholy attack on the Mormon church. The racism charge, white hoods and special underwear are all on deck. There will be a cross burning on Romney’s door very soon. (But which house to put it on?) Observe chimp-astronaut Larry O’Donnell who has been keeping up those attacks, his Dem party masters have him stirring this ugly stew of hate, waiting for the optimal moment to thrust the flame on high.

The problem: the numbers among “actual voters” are looking bad for Obama. Their solution: attack Romney with lies and distortion.

Let’s see Doris come on MSLSD to discuss this unprecedented negativity and the huge dollars spent. That would be refreshing. (Odds: very low)

I remember Dole said that Clinton was morally unfit to be President, and the press howled at Dole for running a negative campaign. The ironic thing was that was about the toughest thing Dole had ever said about Clinton-the-Rapist and then he quickly changed his own subject and fell into the abyss of irrelevancy. But my question is - where is the immediate scorn now for Obama that the media had shown for Dole? Don’t look for it, because it is not coming.

The problem is also Mr. RomneyCARE.

Mr. RomneyCARE “left” Bain but owned 100% of it,
and got a salary of $100,000 per year.

“Left”?

I also do not comprehend why these SEC documents had his name and signature on them if Mittens wasn’t even involved.

" Romney needs to ask that question next time he is asked about hiding something."

I really think he will. He is running a good ad here in Florida, basically calling ZERO a liar. . . .

Romney need to stop playing defense by replying to Obama’s nonsense on Bain. He needs to talk about the economy and everything else Obama has been doing wrong — in language the average Joe can understand.
