Report: Condi Rice front-runner for Romney veep pick
The Hill ^ | July 13, 2012 | Justin Sink

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has emerged as a front-runner for Mitt Romney's vice presidential nomination, according to a report Thursday by the Drudge Report. ..... < snip >

..... But during that same interview, Rice downplayed speculation that she would be chosen as Romney's running mate.

I didn't run for student council president. I don't see myself in any way in elective office, Rice told CBS This Morning on Tuesday.

The former Secretary of State said the Republican candidate had a deep bench of more willing candidates to choose from.

I'm saying there is no way I will do this, because it's really not me, I know my strengths. Gov. Romney needs to find someone who wants to run with him, Rice said. There are many people who will do it very, very well, and I'll support the ticket.

When CBS This Morning host Charlie Rose pressed Rice, noting she hadn't technically said she wouldn't accept the offer to be vice president, she was more definitive.

It's not going to happen - and no, she said. ..... < snip >

Sounds pretty definitive. Besides, I don't think she likes Romney all that much, to carry water for him.

Picking her because she’s black and female is just affirmative action, which I find repugnant. No thanks. We can do better.

Last month she made it perfectly clear that she served under GW Bush by request and saw that as a call to duty. But, she has absolutely no interest in running for elective office and especially for campaigning.

Bad idea, she failed miserably for W, she doesn’t have what it takes.

Plus, race and gender pandering, he can do better.

I’m hoping this is a trial balloon to steal attention from Bambi and somehow play the “I’m not a racist” card. The timing is just too suspicious to do this now. If he wanted to choose Condi, why not announce it at the NAACP convention. That would make some heads explode.

I hope she’s ready for the scrutiny and ridicule she would have to endure. She’s not married is she? That would be unusual not to have a 2nd Lady or Man.

She would be a diaster!

The pick has to come from a crucial battleground State.

Maybe Santorum?

Frankly, I think this is a ploy by the media to take down Romney some. He’ll have to eventually deny the report, and then the media will say it proves the NAACP was right to boo him.

Totally agree with you, Astronaut. There are too many good candidates out there than to pick someone because of race and gender. Besides, as Mark Levin pointed out, if she were on the ticket, the Obama machine would constantly berate the Bush administration. We CAN do better.

“We can do better.”

Just one question to ask, did she vote for obama? This will be the biggst blunder in American history and it will be time to start thinking about packing up and shagging @ss outta here.

Condoleezza Rice Won’t Reveal Who She’s Voting For in November 2008 (and I don’t think it was for McCain/Palin)

First off, let’s not pretend that any choice by Romney would not have some sort of poltical element involved. It’s called politics for a reason so, grow-up and stay focused.

If Condi Rice got picked, she would be a fine choice by Romney. She’s well spoken, has strong opinions, is sharp as hell, knows how to mix it up, and she will also help the GOP shed its unfair image as ‘a racist white-man’s’ club.

You must remember that President Obama is not trying to win this election from the center. He’s obviously trying to win it by going big for the minority vote including blacks, latino’s and asians. He’s also going big for women. If you’ve been watching this strategy has been pretty obvious. There is risk in this strategy because if Romney can peal off a good percentage of minority voters and women, Obama becomes very vulnerable.

Enter Condi Rice.

In my opinion, Rice would not only be a wise choice and an excellent face of the GOP but, her insertion onto the ticket would also be exellent politics on Romney’s side

I for one am getting tired of being affectively labeled ‘racist’ by the elitist liberal left. Do you want to win this thing or don’t you?

can you honestly blame a black American for voting for the first sorta black president?......you can be sure that Mormons will vote enmasse for Romney strictly because he's Mormon, and Catholics voted for Kennedy for the same reasons....

that was last time....I don't blame them...but now they had their fling, he was a disaster and I hope they don't vote racial politics this time around...it will be very telling if they do....

Of course, Van Jones and the redistributionists would like to pick the Republican candidate for VP. Wasn't that what so-called "progressives" did when they "picked" McCain as the opponent in 2008?

In order to win, Romney needs to understand and be able to articulate the ideas Allen West understands and is able to articulate--that the battle is between the ideas of individual freedom and the ideas of slavery to government.

To have the necessary enthusiasm in the base, among those who understand those ideas and will fight to preserve liberty for posterity, he must pick a running mate who excites and has a passion for Creator-endowed life, liberty, and rights, and recognizes the Constitution's limits on power.

Rice can serve well in a cabinet position, if she wishes to return to government, but she has shown no capacity for leading the battle of ideas. Besides, she shows no desire to engage in that battle either.

This cannot POSSIBLY be true. She would be a dreadful choice. Just dreadful.

I know a lot of folks like her a lot, I like her too, pretty much. But she’s no tea-partier, she’s got “BUSH” written all over her, she’ll bring nobody with her who wouldn’t vote for Romney anyway.

I just can’t believe Rice will be the veep pick.

“I for one am getting tired of being affectively labeled ‘racist’ by the elitist liberal left. Do you want to win this thing or don’t you?”

Condi’s not a good choice for that. The elitist liberal left considers her a “Bush right-winger” and minority libs have even less charitable names for her. Most conservatives won’t consider her an improvement on the ticket either. Besides, Communist Van Jones thinks it’d be a great move for Romney to choose her to shock the NAACP. What a recommendation.

The Left will call us racist no matter what. What I’M tired of is public conservatives not having the stones to ridicule ANYone on the Left (even minority Libs) every time they use the race card and point out all the ways it’s a stupid and ridiculous charge.
