In my opinion........this will just be a reason for many to continue to attack the late Joe Paterno. In our society, we always need to find a “reason” why criminals do what they do. Jerry Sandusky is going to spend the rest of his life in prison. He’s the criminal. Many need to be able to point a finger at someone and say, see! it’s his or her fault for the criminal.

Those who knew that Sandusky was molesting children in Penn State buildings and did nothing to stop him are guilty as well.

I don't care about the "reason" why Sandusky did what he did.

If it had been one incident, it's all on the perp, and be done with it.

I DO care about the reason why JoePa and others let it go on and on and on. When it happens over and over and over, then it's NOT just the perp, it's a lot of enablers involved, too.

And if you lock up Sandusky and change nothing else, then nothing will have changed.

Hopefully, the forthcoming lawsuits will bankrupt Pedd State and its football program shut down permanently.

He’s the criminal.

--- You say that singularly, as if there is only one.

Read this:

The most saddening finding by the Special Investigative Counsel is the total and consistent disregard by the most senior leaders at Penn State for the safety and welfare of Sandusky’s child victims.

TOTAL and CONSISTENT DISREGARD

Tell me there are not other criminals there.

Many need to be able to point a finger at someone and say, see! it’s his or her fault for the criminal.

Try this on for size:

Four of the most powerful people at The Pennsylvania State University – President Graham B. Spanier, Senior Vice President‐Finance and Business Gary C. Schultz, Athletic Director Timothy M. Curley and Head Football Coach Joseph V. Paterno – failed to protect against a child sexual predator harming children for over a decade. These men concealed Sandusky’s activities from the Board of Trustees, the University community and authorities. They exhibited a striking lack of empathy for Sandusky’s victims by failing to inquire as to their safety and well‐being, especially by not attempting to determine the identity of the child who Sandusky assaulted in the Lasch Building in 2001. Further, they exposed this child to additional harm by alerting Sandusky, who was the only one who knew the child’s identity, of what McQueary saw in the shower on the night of February 9, 2001.

(Emphasis mine)

Still think that there's only one criminal ?

Respectfully, I do hope they find that Joe Paterno and the school have responsibility for what occurred at Penn State - This report is not just another reason to place blame on someone other than the criminal - it is to assign actual responsibility for those whose actions (or inactions) represent the university. Yes Sandusky was the criminal but by their inaction Joe Paterno, Mike McQueary and any other university staff who did not report the sexual assault of a child to the police are in my eyes just as responsible for the act and any that happened on campus after that date. Their inaction allowed Sandusky to continue and why? To save a precious sports program! Unfortunatley I don't think this report will go far enough in exposing the coverup and systemic failure of the employees at Penn State.

Wait till all the lawsuits come in for Penn State. In my opinion Paterno found the best way out ...death. He kept this a secret and that is deplorable.

Sorry swpa_mom, but the evidence in mounting that JoePa knew of at least some of the sexual activity Sandusky had with CHILDREN, and decided to do precious little about it. If the email release from last week is accurate, he ACTIVELY talked other folks at Penn State out of going to the cops.

I’m sorry, but having a false “perfect” image of someone does a disservice to all those who suffered due to JoePa’s inactivity and PRO-ACTIVE intervention in keep the police out of this, to save the image of Penn State.

And no, this is not simply “his or her fault” it’s THEIR fault. MULTIPLE people. There are sins of commision AND omission. There are also laws against a coverup, which is what was going on here. And when the subject of the coverup is allowed free reign to rape boys IN THE PENN STATE FACILITIES, even after incidents were brought to light over the years, then that says A LOT.

If you don’t want to hear about it, and understand how your attitude can allow thing like this to happen, then I”m sure you can find and join a group of teens ready to turn over some cars and light some fires over this as well.

Paterno was complicit. He should be rightly attacked for his extreme negligence. His legacy should be dismantled.

Read the report. It sums up what any sane person thought when this all went down. It was a cover-up at the highest levels of Penn State... a cover up instituted to protect Penn State’s untouchable “culture” and it’s precious revenue stream.

Who cares about some disposable kids? Certainly not Joe Paterno.

There is such as a thing as not doing what one is suppose to stop future crimes.

I know you jopa worshippers have a hard time grasping that fact.

Paterno knew what was going on and allowed it to continue. In fact, he facilitated it.

Pull down the statue and rename the library.
