He was the first Pakistani to win a Nobel prize in physics after he predicted the existence of the so-called 'God particle', but in his home country Abdus Salam's achievements have been written from the record books. Despite being a leading figure in Pakistan's space and nuclear program Salam was shunned by Muslim fundamentalists when they took control of the country in the 1970s. Although he was a Muslim, the physicist, who died in 1996, belonged to the Ahmadi sect, who believed Hadrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was their spiritual leader as opposed to the prophet Muhammad.

If he is shunned it has nothing to do with particle physics. None of those troglodytes understand even the most basic concepts of that field of physics. Even the article states that this just the usual religious sectarianism, so it’s not clear why a link should be created (oh, wait, British tabloid BS...).

And stop calling it the ‘God’ particle. That’s just a misguidedly invented monicker.

Although he was a Muslim, the physicist, who died in 1996, belonged to the Ahmadi sect, who believed Hadrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was their spiritual leader as opposed to the prophet Muhammad.

So the muslim war on knowledge remains perfect. Batting 100%.

No meaningful useful and permanent discovery or invention of permanent value to civilization has ever been made by a muslim, in a muslim country.Koranimal culture forbids it.

Abdus Salam is essentially the only modern Muslim scientist I can name.

His work was far ranging and very influential. I suppose it’s good to an extent that his belief in a particular strain of Islam made him a pariah to the current Pakistani establishment lest their nuclear program be even further along and undoubtedly more sophisticated than it is.

Interesting too that one of his postdocs was John Polkinghorne who has made even deeper contributions to the connections twixt science and Judeo-Christian theology.

RIP
