Actually, on the surface, this article is showing how things should be done to deal with poverty. There is a perceived need (children not getting enough food because of poverty or parents who are stoned), so a private charity is stepping in to raise money to feed the children. Celebrities are getting involved to help raise the funds and the private charity will help those in need (probably need the charity to help "educate" the parents on how to buy food, but that is another issue).

My problem with this is that I know the private charity's next step is to beg the government to tax more and give it to them (because people aren't giving enough and, after all, it is for the children).

This ‘charity’ is supported by the Prince’s Trust which in Rngland IS government money. This is a scam job by a wealthy do gooder who had no direction in her life. Her web site claims she is a psychotherapist....no degree no training other than she is good with kids. Most of those she helps are the moozie immigrants who don’t want to be part of British society. Throw em all out

help "educate" the parents on how to buy food

That's what I always thought was needed when I worked across the hall from the food stamps office. Send the first benefit to the office and have the parents and older kids come in and take them down to the grocery store to let them spend it like they wish. Before checking out, go through it all and explain why and how different products and sizes would be a better choice. Make a home visit at the end of the month to see what foods are in the home. Same thing with those in government housing with cutting their electric bills and such.

Back in the day, high schools used to have homemaking classes so kids knew how to cook. Now days, they have team building classes which doesn't teach them a thing. It's no wonder they haven't a clue. Not going to get into a public shool/home school debate but if the parents aren't teaching them and the schools aren't teaching them, then it's no wonder the kids haven't a clue. The life skills class (aka special ed class) here used to cook once or twice a week but then the their budget was cut and heaven forbid the lunchroom give them any leftovers so now they watch cartoons instead. Yeah, so how's those "life skills" working out?

we allow idiots and druggies and shallow white trash to have children...infact, we ENCOURAGE them by financial enticements...what do we expect...

no marriage vows?...

homos okay to adopt?..

homosexuality in schools?...

sex education at very young ages?....

there is no outrage...no humiliation anymore...nothing that in the old days would make you feel ashamed...
