When maudlin (exemplified by Number 9 Dream) tempered saccharin (exemplified by Silly Love Song), the result was really great. Of course, it's possible that they were all following their own emotional frequencies that happened to coincide for greatness before desynchronizing and petering out into moroseness (John), silliness (Paul), Krishna-worship (George), and "hey, what the hell happened to my career?" (Ringo).
