“I thought that stuff happened in Florida or Mississippi somewhere, but not here in New York State,” Mayor Mike Bloomberg lashed out in anger this week.

I so tire of South bashing.

After the presidential election of 2000 virtually every political activist in the country was seething at the way the election was handled.
About 50% of the people said, "They stole that election!"
About 50% of the people said, "They almost stole that election!"

And afterwards, no one made a serious effort to fix the system. My conslusion: it's working just the way the political elite want it to work.

FTA:

If we don’t view this month’s mess as a wake-up call, we’ll have only ourselves to blame if next year’s presidential election turns into a rerun of Florida 2000. Americans know it could happen: The Brookings Institution reports that in a 2004 poll of 37 nations, Americans were more likely than citizens of any country save Russia to say that their elections are “very dishonest.” [My emphasis]

Duh!!! I thought it was this year's election, not "next year's." Since John's talking about accuracy in elections, he ought at least to get the year right.

John Fund is either being disingenuous here, or he's stupider than I thought.

But the next day Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus announced that she had excluded some 14,000 votes from the city of Brookfield when she gave her final tally to the Associated Press on election night.

Excuse me, but that is not the official tally -- that's a statement to the flippin' news media! They are not entitled to unofficial results at all, let alone making the clerk waste her time producing a pre-count with accuracy commensurate with the actual, official tally.

Moreover, I think the registrar was crazy like a fox -- the delay meant that the Democrats didn't know how many votes they had to steal or manufacture to win.
