Several electronic road construction signs around Anchorage were hacked late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Signs that normally display closure and detour information, like the one on Minnesota Drive near 100th Avenue, were changed to read Impeach Obama. That particular sign wasnt fixed until sometime between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. Thursday.
It happened because DOT says it doesn't lock the boxes on the signs that hold the message control pad.
Construction managers say sign-hacking has never happened before, so they never thought to lock the boxes.

‘Impeach Obama’
Works for me.
Cool!
All I can say is that this is a “Good sign”
bttt
Yeah, I wouldn’t have fixed it for, oh, 10 or 12 weeks.
Seems to me the sign was doing a public service, lol.
That's handy to know.
LOL Sweet
Thanks for posting.
I am pretty sure they lock them now.
I have three witnesses who will swear I was somewhere else.
That is nothing, hacking the the e-boards is simple.
The real challenge is making a copy right down to the same color, does not have to be solar powered, just a mockup made of wood, a working copy that can be lost.
Then you build a couple dozen for your average town and you place them in high traffic corridors, just pull off the highway, drop the hitch, activate and leave.
the next step is to hack the Amber Alerts.
That would have made my day to be driving home from work and seeing one of these, BRAVO computer geeks!
Then why doesn't it say:
"I Love Obama?"
Yea, hacking Amber Alerts is the key to victory! /sarc
Yes hacking Amber Alerts shows the depth and passion to wage a war against oppression, by any means available.
ANY means available.
Amber Alert: Missing President last seen at local golf course.
You didn't mean that seriously?
Also, the default password is “ DOTS” .
Well I was afraid it would be too ambitious to hack the Emergency Weather Alert system, or the Presidential Emergency Alert broadcasted to all cellphones.
Imagine the warbling weather Emergency tone on your radio or TV, and then you get that semi-computerized message...
IMPEACH OBAMA
Also...
“Should it will ask you for a password. Try DOTS, the default password.
In all likelihood, the crew will not have changed it. However if they did, never fear. Hold Control and Shift and while holding, enter DIPY. This will reset the sign and reset the password to DOTS in the process. Youre in!”
That was totally juvenile in inappropriate.
Now excuse me while I go laugh my *** off.
That was totally juvenile and inappropriate.
Now excuse me while I go laugh my *** off.
This is too funny......
Please put up the “Miss Me Yet?” billboard!
That’s my favorite. Sends a positive message of uplift.
And I do miss Dubya. Truly a class act.
Its war against Obama, no rules, no slacking. Better this than trying to organize a Continental Militia, making laws that mandate a percentage of firearms at all retail outlets must be allocated for militia use, the requirements of basic training, the appropriations of commercial equipment for the transfer of members, supplies.
hacking DOT signs is trivial, it does seem childish but during WW2 many childish stunts were pulled off by the Brits and yanks that forced the Germans to waste resources upon.
Obama is losing resources, I hope he feels the pinch, I want to see him going to bed at night praying to “his” god for more money.
I really want to encourage ANY way to get a message out, even if its drawing it onto dirty cars at parking lots.
“The Alaska Governors office refuses to comment on the incident.”
The Alaska Daily News that is so far left wing it can only walk in left hand circles refuses to comment as well.
Funny it should happen in Anchorage the leftist utopia of the Last Frontier.
And the problem is?
I still like the idea of sticky notes placed on gasoline pumps, checkout lines, rest rooms etc etc etc.
Has an entrepreneur come up with them yet?
It certainly didn’t take long to come up with the VRWC kits, in fact, just ran across my ‘Plank Owner’ card couple of weeks ago.
It's potentially dangerous and it inconveniences thousands of motorists trying to get or return to work or wherever. Hacking an Amber Alert sign, as you earlier suggested, should (rightfully) land one in jail. I can't believe you seriously suggested it. Every second counts when it comes to child abduction.
Has an entrepreneur come up with them yet?

Hmm...before the ‘flaming’ starts, I did my homework after posting this and find about 6 millions matters on this subject....
One of the best I saw was (no, I am not a MOC so I didn’t read all 6 million .. HA) just buy the blanks and do messages by hand so it looks more ‘home spun’.
Taken with my cellphone in Midtown Manhattan.
Our beloved President is brilliant, really-really smart, intelligent, all-knowing, magnificent and great and anyone who wants him impeached is a knuckle-dragging,
bible-thumping, gun-loving Christian moron.

Check it out! I got a thank you note from Barack Obama. If he is elected, maybe I have a get out of jail free card. All kidding aside, Im honored to be acknowledged by someone so important to the future of our country. Also, the Obama campaign asked me to do a poster illustration for sale on their site. It should be out next week on barackobama.com.-Shepard

Here is the 'thank you' letter Barack Obama sent to Shepard Fairey:
"Dear Shepard, I would like to thank you for using your talent in support of my campaign. The political messages involved in your work have encouraged Americans to believe they can help change the status quo. Your images have a profound effect on people, whether seen in a gallery or on a stop sign. I am privileged to be a part of your artwork and proud to have your support. I wish you continued success and creativity.
Sincerely, Barack Obama.'"

I have Family in AK they HATE the Kenyan usurper up there.
The Last Frontier people know freedom and know who oppresses freedom.
Thanks!
FWIW, I think it would be fun to hack DOT signs with some Islamic messages:
“CONVERT TO ISLAM OR DIE!”
“DEATH TO ALL INFIDELS, INSHALLAH!
“ISLAM IS THE SOLUTION” (real motto of Muslim Brotherhood)
“AMERICA NEEDS ISLAM!” (quote from Murfreesboro mosque imam)
Your average “infidel” (like me) would look and go “WTF!!!!?”
I laughed when I read this and wondered, “Where was this, in relation to Eye of Unk?”
Nice to see a few sparks of rebellion.
I have a better one.
GO TO HELL ALLAH!
Love, Jesus...
That's handy to know.
I've heard of this shortcoming before, but then, there are Hungarians in my family. They always know.
Gotta love it!
Skywriting, or on the cheap, an airplane towing a little banner is very noticeable.
Clearly Sarah Palin’s fault!
Obama will probably wet his panties and call for the military.
First time I ever admired a Hacker
The most amazing fact in the article is that there is really a street in Anchorage, Alaska named “100th Avenue.”
I never thought the city was that big.
