When I was growing up, we had “Parma” socks (white socks). It was a joke about lower middle, working class and no blacks in Parma. It did not originate with me and my parents raised me to not pass such things on, but if someone was spotted with white socks...Parma socks!

I have to add- I was a little dense and thought that’s what gym socks were called until I was a teen.
