Philadelphia Archbishop Charles J. Chaput reflects on the religious-liberty threats we face and urges authenticity in the fight to protect it, reminding those gathered that freedom is not a gift of Caesar, but God. Full text, as prepared, courtesy of the archdiocese of Philadelphia:

Civil liberty is also a gift from God and must be fought for. Pity the Bishops weren't quotable on that truth before this latest, most sweeping and open-ended attack on liberty became the law of the land.

How do you define this idea called “Civil liberty”. It has always been my impression and understanding that this concept of “civil” when combined with liberty is used to turn both the concepts of liberty and freedom on their head by moving from limitless freedom with spesfic exceptions, to only spesfic and enumerated “liberties” under otherwise limitless government.

This is at least what the left mean by the phrase “Civil liberty”. It is as if nether the 9th nor 10th amendment exist in their world.

The question I have for you is what do you mean by the phrase “Civil liberty”?
