Mitt Romneys campaign attacked President Obama and the Supreme Court ruling in Obamacare this morning, arguing that the ruling expands congressional power by allowing the federal government to levy taxes in order to compel behavior.
Under this taxing authority now, you can tax inactivity to compel behavior, you can tax inactivity, whats to stop this administration we know the First Lady is very keen on us eating healthy why not tax people for not eating tofu?Gov. Bobby Jindal,, R-La., asked reporters on a conference call this morning. This administration, theyve put taxpayers as partial owners of GM, why not tax people for not going out and buying Chevy Volts? The reality is, this is a huge expansion of the federal governments power.
President Obamas spokesmen in the White House and the campaign deny that the mandate is a tax, despite the Supreme Court ruling upholding the law under Congresss taxing power.
It is simply a fallacy to say this is a broad-based tax, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said today.
Former Gov. Tim Pawlenty, R-Minn., argued that the White House is effectively declaring Obamacare unconstitutional. If its not a tax, then its not constitutional under the rest of the courts opinion, Pawlenty observed on the call.

It may be time to restrict the governments’ ability to levy and collect taxes at all levels.
Then Mr. Carney,is the Administration saying, it is unConstitional? And does that mean the Administration perjured itself before the United States Supreme Court?
“Tofu tax”? LOL, that’s a great name for it.
“why not tax people for not eating tofu?”
I’m exempt! Stirfry tonight is asparagus, onion, carrot and Shitake-flavored pressed tofu, in black bean garlic sauce! Delicious!
Liberal media demanding Jindal apologize for “attacking” Mooch in 3,2,1...
Moochelle can shove her tofu up her wazoo.
The bozos in charge just don’t realize the line they are crossing. If the three branches of government no longer recognize each other’s authority, why would the populace?
Soon, very soon, and I hope it is the constitutionally minded of us, not the parasites.
Believe the Federal court and we are obligated to resist such a massive usurpation of every last one of our reserved(unceeded) rights.
Believe Obama, and we have no obligation to comply with his Obamacare orders at all. Either way as a free people & state of Texas we are inclined to do nothing.
State Nullification is the only path forward. Where & if that fails we will need to start looking at clever options for interposition.(activity blocking the lawless enforcement efforts.)to halt practical usurpation of our rights. But first we must get as many of the remainder of our States pass acts of nullification acts as possible. Some already have, the next step is enforcement of non-cooperation, and finally(in a year or two) interposition.
Was watching “The Revolution” on the Military Channel yesterday.
It was a long, slow simmer until some “radicals” took arms against the King. Even then most of colonists didn’t get on board until Paine published “Common Sense” and the British began to up the muscle against the colonists.
My thought was, what will it take to push the 1/3 of the nation who are “radical” over the edge into armed conflict? Note, I am NOT advocating that type of response, I am just wondering what it would take for it to happen. Federal troops firing on civilians? Been there, done that. Unfair taxation? Ditto.
Just what will it take? A stolen election? Declaration of a State of Emergency followed by a power grab?
I’m sorry but I don’t like all these cutesy soundbites by people supposedly against Obamacare. Calling it a tofu tax isn’t going to convince anyone on the fence to be against this. Republicans need to be talking about how they will aggressively repeal this monster. They need to tell the American people how this is going to increase the cost of living and taxes and our debt in a huge, huge way. I don’t think this is helpful by Jindal. It’s not a joke. This is a country and freedom destroyer.
As a stockholder of Phillip Morris I believe we should tax non-cigarette smokers. This would increase the tax revenue from the cigarettes sold as well as shorten the life of many who would otherwise be using critically short health resources.
Cigs used to be helpful for fixing SS and Medicare, but the FedGov has found something far more effective: Death Panels.
I like tofu, but don’t like Moochelle. Press your tofu. Fry on each side for ten minutes. Then smush into a bowl that already has Kikkoman, garlic or onion, some grated ginger. Delicious
Hey, was that the series "Liberty" that was narrated by Forrest Sawyer? Or was it the one with Bill Kurtis? The latter is superior, IMHO. Or was it a different one altogether?
I've been trying to find some of these at torrent sites, but "Liberty" is the only one I've been able to locate thus far...
LOL!
Narrated by Charles Kuralt. Did seem to occasionally dip left, like pointing out that the founding fathers were white males most of whom owned slaves.
