Yeah, we’re completely useless. Let’s see.

I’ve done advertising (since I can do public speaking, know how to write, and know how to appeal to other people).

I’ve done research (since I know my way around a library and can dig through any archive)

I’ve done freelance writing (since I can write just about anything your little heart desires from technical reports to poety).

I’ve done database work, since I’m trained in systematically organizing information so as to be accessable and understandable.

History majors have quite a few talents that are hard to find in other occupations. I can do most anything because most of all, if I don’t know how to do it, I know how to learn it.

Hate to bust your narcissistic bubble but most any high school graduate can do all of the things you mention.

Face it....a history major is worthless in the real world.

There are exceptions to every rule. I have a Masters and it is in the area that I spent the better part of my long military career doing. I did have a fun break from my tedious administrative life when I worked as an avionics technician and have worked on jets all around the world for US and foreign militaries. Naval Aviators are a special bred apart, if you are not convinced just ask one. Only kidding, maybe. Any military aviator is a type A personality, except maybe Air Force transport types. :) That is your advantage over the average History Grad. While there actually are any number of jobs that young lady could do, is she willing to travel with say USAID or try the State Department etc. When I retired, I had a phone interview with a Euro Zone based company looking for a Senior Executive Manager at their call center in India. It was a good salary, good cola compensation, I would have gone in a heart beat. But expat work is not for everyone, and most of these kids never even think about that. They had expectations, but they think just sending out a resume is all they need to do. They have to be aggressive, confident, willing to start low and demonstrate sustain high levels of performance. With hard work and luck they could be Naval Aviators, with hard work luck and good looks they might make a good Chief.
