Pelosi’s District Gets 20% of Latest ObamaCare Waivers (2011)

Crony capitalism at its most basic. Create onerous regulations and then give out exemptions to allies and constituents. The only wrinkle in this case is that the demographic subsection unburdening itself of ObamaCare is the same demographic subsection that has been most pointedly exuberant in advocating health care reform, with California Democrats even passing symbolic health care laws just like the ones that their most liberal supporters are now opting out of.

On the federal level, of course, Former House speaker Nancy Pelosi was instrumental in securing ObamaCare’s passage. And now, for a disproportionate number of businesses in Pelosi’s San Francisco district, ObamaCare is not their problem, not any more.

This may be a year old but in light of today's USSC ruling I think it's worth reposting.

Would those waivers really hold now since it is a tax? How could just some businesses/organizations be exempted?

I could be wrong but I thought that back in the days when we had the rule of law that a TAX had to be waived by Congress.

I figure that shared misery is the least that we can ask for.

Great point. I’m sure Pelooser and her liberal counterparts are already working on defending against that.

You type faster than I do. That was one of the first things I thought about. Well, not really in the first dozen but I eventually got around to it.

I called my congress critter and inquired. I only talked to a low level staffer but they seemed to think it was a worthy line of inquiry and I'd encourage everybody to talk it up.

Early june 2011 (document dump Friday) Obama stopped allowing new waivers as of 09/2011.

All waivers were always to end at the end of 2013.

She passed it to find out what was in it, and yearned for it so much she EXEMPTED her district.

Right?

It's probably because Polosi's district is in California which is so business friendly that a disproportionate number of companies are located there. [yes, that was sarcasm]

Since this is now a tax, I would think that all waivers granted are gone.

Which means Republicans can now break out the ads of the Democrats taxing old people into poverty.

A picture of an old couple sitting in a refrigerator box under the Brooklyn bridge will make a lovely backdrop for a commercial.

That is exactly right. I think the most salient point is, if it is such a great bill why do companies in her district want and need a waiver?

The House needs to pass a bill and send it to the Senate eliminating the waiver provision in Obamacare. That would set the stage for everyone feeling the financial pain from Obamacare and will lead to its REPEAL by the next Congress.
