EVANSVILLE — An affidavit filed in Vanderburgh Superior Court shows the Evansville Police Department did not have a specific suspect when a fully armed SWAT team stormed into a house last week with "flashbang" stun grenades and found only a teenage girl and her grandmother.

Perhaps some enterprising lawyers are thinking “Rules for Reactionaries.”

Maybe they’ve thought of lawyering up appropriately a client and then swatting themselves for a big payday? I’m not saying it was aliens who called....but it was aliens.

Something has to break here. People are being terrorized by tech-savvy kids. It’s no longer leaving a flaming bag of poo on a doorstep, toilet-papering trees or ding-dong-ditch. It’s not putting shaving cream on a car door handle or up a tailpipe. This is life and death. This is taxpayer money spent on pranks.

Someone is going to die over this. A homeowner is going to open fire on a SWAT team or a SWAT team is going to kill a high-ranking person in local government or the media. This is not going to end well.

According to the info in the article, there was no immediate threat so there really was no reason to storm the place anyway. Warrant or no warrant these cops used excessive tactics. A simple knock on the door and showing the warrant would have been sufficient.

We are doomed.

“We are doomed.”

We’re definitely circling the drain...

What is wrong with the Police Departments and their SWAT teams? Did they fall off the turnip truck? There has to be a way to check various reports short of a full on SWAT raid.

You miss the real purpose of a full scale SWAT raid in the afternoon.

The full scale SWAT raid was not necessary to serve the warrant at 2:00 PM. It was necessary as a demonstration of force to fully declare the local police department and judiciary system are willing and able to use excessive force to ensure their personal safety.

Add to this the blatant attempt to hide the warrants from public review and things get real scary real quick.

IMHO this full scale SWAT raid is nothing more than Waco on a local scale.

The militarization of the police is a threat to our Republican form of government.

It high time the public started firing some chiefs and stopped funding the acquisition of military gear for these SOG wannabees.

It is the responsibility of the judges and the LEO to prevent what you astutely described. They better get their shite together or get prepared to meet a mass protest who will be better armed and enthused about saving our freedom from this all to often Swat mess.

Aren’t the military being hired as police now?

I have mixed emotions on that.

After officers stormed the home, Bolin said police had no way of knowing if an unsecured wireless Internet network in the home could have been accessed by someone outside it.

Why bother doing basic investigative police work when busting in doors is so much fun!?!

Whatever happened to just knocking on the front door and presenting the warrant when the occupant comes to the door? The alleged Internet posting may have been nasty as to police, but as the person was unknown and the this was in the middle of the afternoon, any resistance was unlikely. Cops have helmets, shields and vests available so who ever came to the door was unlikely to be able to hurt a cop.

This is not going to end well.

It ended at least 20 years ago. We are in a true police state and most of us love it.
