That little spot on the forehead is the mark of a pious Moslem, caused by bumping head on ground five times a day. It becomes a sort of permanent carpet-burn. Anwar Sadat had one since he was a pious and observant Moslem (back in the day when being observant didn't mean being a homicidal maniac).

Lots of those Brotherhood types have the big, fuzzy beard and the rugburn spot.

Fashion-forward note: Salafist supporters of Al Q'aeda very often clean-shave the upper lip only but grow the full, fuzzy-wuzzy beard. Look for it -- if you see it, it isn't accidental "styling".

The Sudanese Mahdists of 130 years ago wore full beards and let their hair grow for similar reasons, hence their British Army nickname, "Fuzzy Wuzzies". Kitchener and Churchill both fought against them in their junior-officer days, Churchill having a very narrow and somewhat famous escape.

Before the Mahdists succeeded in trapping and killing "Chinese" Gordon at Khartoum, the Pasha of Egypt (nominally replying to the Porte but also subject to British influence and interference) originally offered that command to ex-Confederate Gen. George S. Pickett in 1870, but Pickett turned it down, saying he was all done leading men to death and destruction. Good call.
