Activists Seek to Reignite Debate Over Elizabeth Warren's Ancestry
By Meghan Kiesel | ABC OTUS News – 3 hrs ago

Despite Republican attempts to turn Elizabeth Warren's Cherokee heritage - or lack thereof - into a campaign issue, her self-identification with the tribe despite a 1/32 share of ancestry has not affected her standing in opinion polls.

A recent Boston Globe poll suggested more than 70 percent of voters said the controversy wouldn't affect their vote.

That hasn't stopped a small but committed group of Cherokee women from dogging Warren on the campaign trail, irked that she has called herself Cherokee. How small? Their last protest - at the Massachusetts Democratic convention earlier this month - featured two people.

Spearheaded by Twila Barnes, an amateur genealogist from the Cherokee Nation, four women have spent this week in Boston, Mass., hoping to get a few minutes with Warren.

Warren staffers "haven't returned our calls," Barnes said. Julie Edwards, a member of Warren's staff, said that the team had no plans to meet with the Cherokee representatives.

There is no hope for Massachusetts.

If 70% of the people just don’t see it as an issue that will affect their vote that a candidate will lie about their race for personal, academic and professional advancement? They’re gone and gone forever.

I mean for Jiminy Christmas that means I can proclaim myself a multi-racial, transexual, transgendered, atheist anarchist without it ever having any effect on voters in Massachusetts.

Yes you can but you will have to give up your FR family. IMO that is way more important than anyone in Massachusetts so you might want to reconsider.

IF they weren't going to vote for Warren, this issue wouldn't affect their vote.

This is a stupid third level question that encompasses pro and con in its scope. IT MEANS NOTHING ~ not even in Massachusetts.

Nobody is going to answer yes on that question. More DNC poll dancing.

So proud to live,
So proud to LIE

Cherokee Nation will return
Will return
Will return
Will return

And these people think they are better than most of us.

Maybe 70% plan to vote for Scott Brown anyway so, no, the controversy will not “change” their vote.

It is not surprising that her wild claims of being an indian do not hurt her chances.

Democrats do not vote for a person, they vote party.

They would vote for “Rover” Warren if there was a D after the dogs name on the ballot.

It’s a deliberately misleading question. If one isn’t going to vote for her anyway, how could this change one’s mind?

So what are the polls showing? Still a dead heat? People of Massachusetts get and deserve what they vote for but in Senate and house elections it affects the rest of us.
