I pounded in rocks on top of the squirrel.

I put a basketball sized rock alone over one burrow and it never was re-dug. I guess it wasn’t the main door. Probably why an old one behind and under the garage came back online. I peed in there about 3 times and never saw the critter again. Then I capped it with a couple concrete blocks.
One occasionally comes in to nibble some grass, but no of them live in our yard anymore.
Now I’m swamped with chipmunks.
