I thought Earth bound telescopes had problems with their resolution due to the atmosphere and light pollution no matter how big their mirrors are which is why I thought they placed Hubble in space?

While there are still many limitations to earth based telescopes, adaptive optics can minimize many of them.

Very interesting. They’re also putting it in Chile to minimize light pollution.

I saw a show on some telescope that had two mirrors (I guess two for 3d???) and it had a bunch of little actuators the could deform the mirrors; I didn’t know they could use that to compensate for the atmosphere.

I can’t wait to see the images. The ones from Hubble are incredible.

It’s too bad that it’s not the USA doing this, are we surrendering our lead in science or what?
