KKK road adoption application denied in Georgia
FoxNews.com ^ | June 12, 2012

Posted on 06/13/2012 7:08:36 AM PDT by ETL

The Georgia Department of Transportation has denied a Ku Klux Klan group's application to join the state's Adopt A Highway program.

The International Keystone Knights of the KKK in Union County applied last month to adopt part of Route 515 in the Appalachian Mountains. In a statement Tuesday, the agency said "promoting an organization with a history of inciting civil disturbance and social unrest would present a grave concern" and could "have the potential to negatively impact the quality of life" of people in the county and state.

The state's program enlists volunteers to pick up trash, and volunteers are recognized with a sign along the road they adopt. The agency said in the statement that maintaining safety on roadways is the department’s first priority and that "encountering signage and members of the KKK along a roadway would create a definite distraction to motorists."

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

In 1942, 24-year-old Byrd joined the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), whose parades in Matoaka, West Virginia, he had witnessed in his childhood. He was unanimously elected Exalted Cyclops, or leader, of his local chapter.[8]

Byrd, in his autobiography, attributed the beginnings of his political career to this incident, although he lamented that they involved the Klan. According to Byrd, a KKK official told him "You have a talent for leadership, Bob... The country needs young men like you in the leadership of the nation." Byrd recalls that "suddenly lights flashed in my mind! Someone important had recognized my abilities! I was only 23 or 24 years old, and the thought of a political career had never really hit me. But strike me that night, it did."[4] He participated in the KKK during World War II, holding the titles Kleagle (recruiter) and Exalted Cyclops [the top officer in the local Klan unit]. He did not serve in the military during the war, working instead as a welder in a Baltimore, Maryland shipyard, where he helped build warships.[citation needed]

Byrd commented on the 1945 controversy about racially integrating the military. Byrd, when he was 28 years old, wrote to segregationist Senator Theodore Bilbo, of Mississippi, vowing never to serve in such a military:

"Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.[5]"

He had earlier written "I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side".[6][7]

From the Washington Post:

"Byrd said in the Dec. 11, 1945, letter -- which would not become public for 42 more years with the publication of a book on blacks in the military during World War II by author Graham Smith -- that he would never fight in the armed forces "with a Negro by my side." Byrd added that, "Rather I should die a thousand times, and see old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.."..."

"during the general election campaign, Byrd's GOP opponent uncovered a letter Byrd had handwritten to Green, the KKK Imperial Wizard, recommending a friend as a Kleagle and urging promotion of the Klan throughout the country. The letter was dated 1946 -- long after the time Byrd claimed he had lost interest in the Klan. "The Klan is needed today as never before, and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia," Byrd wrote, according to newspaper accounts of that period. Byrd makes no mention of the letter in his new book."

Democratic Sen. Robert Byrd, Ex-Klansman
by Michelle Malkin (March 8, 2001)

Ex-Klansman Robert Byrd, the senior senator from West Virginia, casually used the phrase "white nigger" twice on national TV this weekend. Enraged civil rights groups organized a protest campaign against Sen. Byrd and demanded that he undergo sensitivity training ... not.

The ex-Klansman, you see, is a Democrat. Democrats can join hate groups and utter the ugliest racial slurs and get away with it because they are Democrats. They belong to the party of racial tolerance and understanding. They're paragons of virtue, and the rest of us are bigoted rubes.

The ex-Klansman showed his true colors when asked by Fox News Sunday morning talk show host Tony Snow about the state of race relations in America. Sen. Byrd warned: "There are white niggers. I've seen a lot of white niggers in my time. I'm going to use that word. We just need to work together to make our country a better country, and I'd just as soon quit talking about it so much."

Here in Pittsburgh the local TV news this morning had a story about some Klan recruiting flyers being left around homes in Butler County.

This is the first I have actually seen of the Klan around here since a half-dozen green toothed cretins showed up to protest in front of a courthouse about 20 yrs. ago.

This sudden re-emergence of the Klan is all Obama campaign astroturf, no doubt.

Good!

I can only hope the same logic will ALWAYS be applied to all things Muslim! It is a cult of death and destruction to a much greater degree than the evil KKK and should never be equated with a religion.

Same for the communist "Black Liberation Theology" movement, alive and well under Comrade Obama.

"Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal".--James (Jim) Cone,

WRIGHT: If you're not going to talk about theology in context, if you're not going to talk about liberation theology that came out of the '60s, systematized black liberation theology that started with Jim Cone in 1968 and the writings of Cone and the writings of Dwight Hopkins and the writings of womynist theologians and Asian theologians and Hispanic theologians, then you can't talk about the black value system.

HANNITY: But I'm a — reverend

WRIGHT: Do you know liberation theology, sir?

Instead, in a carefully-worded, roundabout form of ethnic nationalism,[8] they say that Marx based his ideology and teachings on indigenous African cultures, and that the NBPP therefore need not look to Marxism or Maoism as a basis for their program, but can look to ideologies that stem directly from those African origins.”

"The Justice Department originally brought the case against four armed men who witnesses say derided voters with catcalls of "white devil" and "cracker" and told voters they should prepare to be "ruled by the black man." ..."

One poll watcher called police after he reportedly saw one of the men brandishing a nightstick to threaten voters.

As I walked up, they closed ranks, next to each other,” the witness told Fox News at the time. “So I walked directly in between them, went inside and found the poll watchers. They said they’d been here for about an hour. And they told us not to come outside because a black man is going to win this election no matter what.”

He said the man with a nightstick told him, “’We’re tired of white supremacy,’ and he starts tapping the nightstick in his hand. At which point I said, ‘OK, we’re not going to get in a fistfight right here,’ and I called the police.”...”

Based on the ruling explanation, then no democrat or liberal group could participate.

I agree with the decision but I have to admit it would be comical seeing a bunch of robed klansmen picking up trash. And even funnier if they all wore Robert Byrd masks.

Robert Byrd was doing what he had to do to get elected. So says Bill Clinton. I’m still waiting for him to say the same thing about George Wallace.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Unfortunately, Muslims probably fall into the category of a “protected class”, or soon will be. I.E. a segment of the population outside the European/Christian population, which is extended special protections and privileges due to past wrongs, alleged or real.

What if the American Communist Party came forward and wanted to name a highway after Karl Marx? How about some black group wanting to name a highway after “Reverend” Jessie Jackson or “Reverend” Al Sharpton?

I really expect the ACLU will challenge this decision in the courts, as they serve as self-appointed advocates for all types of odious groups, and strike down this decision.

What raised my suspicions was that the artwork shown on the cover of this Klan recruiting brochure was just too good. There aren't many Michelangelos or even Thomas Kincaids out there working for the Klan.

You know, .. an idea. Maybe the local Tea Party Groups should adopt a mile here and there ... nice to have the “free signs” .. also a challenge to people “not” to allow it. Good marketing! Also, if you’ve never gone out to help clean up a mile or so of highway, you should try it. Makes you feel kind of good and its a nice “outing” fun for families too.

Works for me! All these hate groups must be denied any 1st Amendment protection. Like the KKK and Islam they hate cults and do not deserve recognition.
