According to my sons, who are guaranteed to leap from their beds and hit the floor running before I reach the high notes, it is. (And I’m a professional vocalist, so it’s not just the performer ;-).
To be fair, if I simply recited the lyrics, I’m sure they would sleep on, happily dreaming of our defeating the Brits in the next war, too.

If I am not mistaken, only those who are serving or have served in the Armed Forces are not supposed to cross their heart during the National Anthem.
This is not exactly a new topic. There is talk from time to time to change it to My County Tis of Thee or America The Beautiful but I don't think it will ever happen.
