John Quiñones, one Republican challenger to Democrat Alan Grayson, sent an email to supporters tonight highlighting a fundraiser on Tuesday; minimum suggested contribution is $50.
The Osceola County commissioner (and congressional hopeful) will need the money if he wants to compete. Grayson has netted at least $1.7 million in campaign contributions so far and has his own wealth to backstop his return to Congress.
Included on the invite was a list of honorary hosts; they are below.
Honorary Host Committee: Former Attorney General Bill McCollum City of Orlando Commissioner Tony Ortiz Representative Stephen Precourt Teresa Jacobs, Orange County Mayor Art Otero, City of Kissimmee Vice Mayor Bob Cortes, City of Longwood Commissioner Bill Donegan, Orange County Property Appraiser Wanda Rentas, Kissimmee Commissioner Bill Sublette, Orange County School Board Chairman

John Quiñones is a Republican who has a history of winning crossover Democratic voters and he’s the only Republican who has a chance in this newly-drawn, solidly Democrat district. He’s running against Alan Grayson, who’s obviously cookoo for Cocoa Puffs.
Here’s hoping he pulls it off.
FL Freepers....Please ping your lists to this thread.
We need to spread the word on John Q.....
We must help to defeat Grayson!
Florida Freeper ping here!
Florida Freeper ping ..................................... FRegards
The GOP will retain control of the Housse, and I expect, increase its majority. Also the next House GOP caucus will be more conservative.
Given that, and with the full understanding that it is indeed a TERRIBLE fate to wish on conservatives who reside in the district, I actually believe that conservative values, and candidates, throughout the country would benefit if the Dems had a couple of crazy, loose cannons in the HJouse, like Grayson and Charlie Barron ( who may win a seat in Brooklyn). Team them with Mad Maxine Waters, and the totally bananas Sheilah Jackson-Lee, along with the guy who worries that Guam will tip over, and they will guarantee a GOP House majority for the next 20 years. Every comment they make, every word on the House floor, is a ready-made GOP ad.
Am I wrong?
That’s correct, but only if those Democrats are from districts that would never elect a Republican under any circumstances. That would normally be the case here, but now Republicans have a candidate who can win a normally impossible district.
One of 2 decidedly rat-leaning seats in FL we have a shot in thanks to strong local candidates. The other is Adam Hasner for the redrawn 22nd. The benefit of having a strong bench.
Why would the Republican controlled legislature in Florida draw a district that would accommodate such a clown?
Florida redistricting was propagated under new guidelines passed via a stupid ballot initiative that limited our ability to successfully gerrymander.
But irregardless of that ballot initiative there was gonna be a new democrat seat in Orlando. No way to avoid it other than dividing the local rat vote into 2 seats and risking losing both of them.
If Grayson wins the silver lining is he’s a wackjob who helps us when he opens his mouth. And it’s not like he’ll be taking up one of our seats this time, this seat is likely to elect a democrat, if they do it may as well be a loudmouth embarrassment who local Hispanics rats might resent cause he’s Anglo. Dan Webster (who beat Grayson) now sits in a seat that voted for McCain 52-47, this new seat was 60-40 Obama keeping those rats out of next door GOP seats. I would not rather have 2 seats that each went 54% Obama.
But hopefully Q can pull the upset and that will be all the better.

“Why would the Republican controlled legislature in Florida draw a district that would accommodate such a clown?”
To improve Republican chances in adjoining districts.
Thanks for the ping. Grayson is a more vile man than DWS - and that’s saying something (and not just that DWS might be a man). As a matter of fact, I’d go as far as to say that Grayson is more disgusting than Barney Frank.
As you said, he does help when he opens his mouth. But there are millions as clueless as him that donate to his cause despite his insanity, just as they did to Kucinich in Ohio.
Thus, though the GOP’s hands were tied, we may have just created a seat for him for a long, long time.
It would be priceless to see Alan Grayson lose again.
I don’t know the exact Hispanic %. But it’s Puerto Rican not Cuban. In Florida Puerto Ricans are swing voters. Jeb Bush did well with them I heard winning 51% of the non-Cuban Hispanic vote in 2002.
Q is Puerto Rican. Puerto Rican rats intended to win this seat but they didn’t count on Grayson moving in. He is not currently even opposed in the primary (Deadline is tomorrow.) so they must be on board but ordinary voters are another matter, Q has a chance.
