So how did the feds issue Zimmerman two passports? With all of the hullabalo over documents, I’m amazed the government screwed up that way.

There is no way to verify if someone lost a passport. Nor is there any communication between state courts and the fed in regards to passports and bail. Perhaps there should be.

He reported the first "lost, stolen, destroyed, or strayed", was issued a replacement.

Speculation: The court checked the expiry date of the passport they received (May 2012) with State dept records for the expiry date of the issued replacement (2014) and realized reports of the original's disappearance were much exxagerated
