Last night, in an interview with the Boston Globe, Elizabeth Warren claimed that her parents were forced to elope because her fathers family objected to her mothers Native American heritage:
"In the 1930s, when my parents got married, these were hard issues, Warren said. My fathers family so objected to my mothers Native American heritage that my mother told me they had to elope. [emphasis added]
Breitbart News has obtained a copy of what it believes to be Warrens' parents marriage certificate from Hughes County, Oklahoma, dated January 4, 1932. The marriage took place in Holdenville, Oklahoma, the county seat, located approximately 14 miles from Wetumpka, Oklahoma, which both the 21-year-old groom, Donald J. Herring, and 19-year-old bride, Pauline Reed, declared as their residence.

According to the document, the marriage was performed by Sidney H. Babcock, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church South of Holdensville, Oklahoma.
Typically, couples that elope do not marry in a church, or in their place of residence.

Today in Rush’s morning update, Rush called Ms Warren: Chief Sprewing Bull. I thought it was funny...
I think poor Lizzie realizes she is in a trap and is desperately working towards a revelation that will clear it all up. She knows she committed preference fraud and therefore must stick with the position that she truly believed the family lore. Obviously it must be in print somewhere thus she has to stick with the whole story. Sooner or later she will deem that the preponderance of evidence makes it safe for her to have an epiphany and apologize for being duped. That’s her only way out but she is playing it poorly.
All you need is your ancestor’s roll number.
Thx, was aware of that. Had my DNA done (I’m Irish) and found a few matches in Spain. Could be ...
I was looking at this marriage certificate and noticed that one of the two witnesses is Mrs. Babcock. I grew up as a preacher’s kid. People would sometimes come and want Dad to marry him, and he performed some of those marriages. Mom would serve as a witness, and he would usually call a neighbor.
In a 1931 (23 Sep) Dallas Morning News I found a picture of an Alyne Geren, an Oklahoma girl from Holdenville, who is in a 4-H club and aiding in judging cattle. She looks like she would be about the same age as Pauline, and maybe a friend.
Analysis? It could have been a private “elopment” in that they got married quietly and without parents present.
