A scientific study likely to stir the souls of chocoholics has suggested that eating dark chocolate every day for 10 years could reduce the likelihood of heart attacks and strokes in some high-risk patients.

The researchers, whose work was published in the British Medical Journal on Friday, stressed the protective effects have only been shown for dark chocolate containing at least 60 to 70 percent cocoa - not for milk or white chocolate. This is probably due to higher levels of flavonoids in dark chocolate.

Couldn't you just eat two or three times as much milk chocolate and get the effect? I'm ready for trials.

Coffee's good for you too! Have a cup with your dark chocolate.

It's sad that tofu, yogurt, and vegetarian diets cause early deaths... must suck to be a liberal.

Yeah and if this were 25 years or so ago, I'd throw in a regular regimen of good sex.

Now I'll have to settle for 2 glasses of wine a day and fond memories..lol

I would love to take this doctors advice but chocolate give me a migraine headache. Sadly I am allergic to 3 of the 4 major food groups. Chocolate, corn and beer! That leaves me with one that I can eat, Texas beef. There are only 4 major food groups aren't there? :D

If you go to your link and then below the article click on Oldest Verified People, you will find my great aunt. She is #16 on the list and lived to be almost 116. She died in 1994. If she had lived a few more months she would have been the oldest person in the world. The French woman had that title and outlived my great aunt by a couple of months.

OK. At one time, some people were saying that low fat yogurt was bad for health. And they tried to relate it to cataracts, if you believe that.

All of the good things in moderation.

Besides your daily dark chocolate supplemet, add your two cups of coffee each day, ocean salmon 2-3 times per week, a couple of eggs each week, a good steak or piece of lamb a few times each month, chicken as part of your diet, not the main source of protein, good fresh veggies and fruit as sides not main courses, a glass or 2 of wine or good beer each evening, your daily baby aspirin and a couple of miles walked each day.

Then compare your health to the health of the fanatics of whatever and the vegie only eaters.

You will probably be healthier and happier than the fanatics and the vegie only eaters.
