NOGALES, AZ (AP) -
Arizona officials say the state is suing the U.S. International Boundary and Water Commission for state permit and Clean Water Act violations caused by allowing untreated industrial wastewater to cross the U.S. border from Mexico at Nogales.
The Nogales International reports that the lawsuit, filed Friday in Maricopa County Superior Court, alleges that the IBWC has failed to implement a program to keep industrial waste from entering domestic sewage, which has resulted in illegal levels of cadmium, cyanide and ammonia nitrogen entering Arizona.
The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality says it will ask the court to require that IBWC either implement a pretreatment program or install an industrial waste treatment system at the Nogales International Wastewater Treatment Plant in Rio Rico.
An IBWC spokeswoman did not immediately return an email.
Hey, it’s just doing the jobs that American toxic waste doesn’t want.
But, I thought that waste that’s been crossing the border for decades had slowed down to a trickle...in fact some of it has been trickling back lately, or so I’ve read.
For the first time I've ever seen since frequenting this establishment (20+ years), there were about a dozen Mexicans there and these were of the recently established variety....(very apparent as evidenced by thrift store fashion - clothing was prom dresses with mismatched shoes and tuxedo shirts with jeans and cowboy boots).
As I went to use the ladies room (as you do when drinking), I walked in and the women were in there, using the toilets with the doors wide open and handing toilet paper (used) to the ones standing outside the stalls to deposit in the garbage cans. I left, told hubby to pay the check and we vamoosed. It's really apparent they have no fear of being caught and have no intention of behaving as Americans behave.
The wonderful nation of Mehico lacks a first world infrastructure. Lacking modern waste treatment, they are unable to flush used toilet tissue without clogging their sewers. I do wish somebody would tell them that in the U.S of A, it’s “okay” to flush.
***they are unable to flush used toilet tissue without clogging their sewers.***
when I last visited Mexico to use the toilet you had to purchase two sheets of toilet from a dealer there backed up by an armed policeman. You bought the paper.
Maybe these new arrivals think of saving their used paper for the next time, and are unaware what that roll is tied to the wall is used for.
Has Eric Holder sued AZ over this yet?
