Bo Xilai, Zhang Ziyi mired in $1.5m prostitution scandal

2012-05-29 19:36

Bo Xilai, the former party secretary of Chongqing, China, and Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi are mired in a scandal after a news report said Zhang provided sexual services for Bo in exchange for money.

U.S.-based Chinese-language news Website Boxun was quoted by news reports as saying that Bo’s associate Xu Ming, founder and chairman of Dalian Shide Group, arranged secretive meetings for the two more than 10 times from 2007-2011.

The report said Zhang was paid about 46 million Taiwanese dollars ($1.55 million) per deal.

The meetings all occurred in Beijing, the report said.

The report also said that Xu not only introduced Zhang to two other “high-ranking Chinese government officials” for similar sexual services but had a secret relationship with the actress himself.

The actress is reportedly under investigation by Chinese authorities and is barred from leaving China.

The Website in April reported that Xu introduced more than 100 women to Bo for sex and the women included household-name celebrities.

Makes Eliot Spitzer look like a cheapskate.

I wonder if she was worth it. Apparently she was, he was a repeat customer.

And you thought US Secret Service agents were getting scammed when their hookers wanted to overcharge them to the tune of $800?

As time goes by, I think more and more that China will become more like Mexico than the US... the few at the top will have lavish lifestyles (especially the CCP members, particularly those who join entirely for economic and not philosophical reasons), the middle class will be existent and sated (but not very large, percentage-wise), and the rest will be left to rot in the same unpleasant peasant lifestyle they’ve always had. Sad.

More than ten times... which means she has cleared at least $15,500,000.00 USD so far... not bad work if you can get it.

Ziyi was the girl from "Memoirs of a Geisha", and was a lead character in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" as well.

She was engaged to venture capitalist Aviv "Vivi" Nevo (a major shareholder in Tome Warner) back in 2008, but broke it off in 2010... apparently to do her own style of venture capitalism?

I love Chinese movies on Netflix.

My fav was where the maid of a rich Chinese family was shamed by becoming pregnant by the man of the house. The wife, to preserve appearances, forced her to have an abortion. For revenge, the maid doused herself in gas, hung herself from the chandelier in front of the wife, husband and kids and just as she about to strangle, lit herself on fire.

Now that’s an ending.

It's much more affordable when you are in a position to use public money. :)

Actually, Zhang Ziyi is already very wealthy and wouldn't need to do anything like this, so the whole story is suspect - especially since the Chinese government is putting on a full court press to get Bo Xilai on something, to keep him from ever making a comeback. Was something like this going on with minor actresses? No doubt. With someone of Zhang Ziyi's prominence, it seems unlikely.

I think your comment is spot on, except that China will outdo Mexico in cruelty and corruption. That’s difficult to imagine, I know.

I suspect your are on the right trail. A background on the supposed pimp,Xu Ming, and any troubles with the PRC/PLA might help put some further light on this.
If he is currently on the outs then its entirely probable that this is a plot to get Bo on something...anything.

Ziyi has a pretty loyal and vocal fan-base both in the mainland as well as on Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Europe and the U.S.A.
I look for them to chime in with some interesting exposes about this.

Not saying there isn't a grain of truth to this. Such "arrangements" are well known in Chinese cultural ..."affairs."
In the historic Chinese way of looking at things, the woman involved in this is viewed as merely protecting her future. Not really engaged in any "bad" activity.
I'm certain that there is a very old Chinese phrasing equivalent to ..."You got the money - You get the honey"
