Whether NDU is Catholic to your satisfaction or to anyone else’s, the fact is that to the vast majority of Americans NDU IS America’s foremost Catholic university. Fordham, Georgetown, Boston College, and St. Louis do not,in their names or nationwide reputations create in the mind the Catholic image of NDU. The Golden Dome, Touchdown Jesus, and Pat O’Brien as Rockne, talking to his team about The Scool of Our Lady. All these identify NDU. Thus, it was incumbent upon its president to take this step. No matter who they invited in ‘09 to speak,Notre Dame cannot stand aside while the American Church is attacked for its beliefs. Maybe the good father wishes there was another way, but for NDU there isn’t. Its position in this country makes this move an obligation.
The president of ND should have been publicly and loudly chastised by what's left of the American Catholic church. An excommunication wouldn't have been too much for this heretic.
I don't care what noble background ND has had. To me, to invite this POS that lives in our White House was disgusting, and now to complain about something that this POS that lives in our White House has "declared" is 100% disgustingly hypocritical. May ND go to hell along with its complacent faculty.
NDU gave Obama an honorary degree in law. If NDU had any balls, they would revoke it publically. Which is it? Are they all those things you said?? Or do they think Obama deserves an NDU law degree?
I notice that Baptist Baylor does not suck up to Obama,,,and God appears to approve of that (at least in basketball matters). Just saying.
Just as a heads-up, few will know who you are talking about by using NDU ... it’s UND ... University of Notre Dame... :)
‘...to the vast majority of Americans [UND] IS Americas foremost Catholic university...”
Sorry. That illusion does not pass the stink test.
“...the Golden Dome, Touchdown Jesus, and Pat OBrien as Rockne ... All these identify [UND]...”
Sorry. Sentimental football movies from long ago, and
expensive pieces of architecture, built long ago by the donations of previous generations, do not make up for the lack of orthodoxy in the classrooms and the administration today.
“...Notre Dame cannot stand aside while the American Church is attacked for its beliefs.”
But Notre Dame can stand aside, and it has stood aside; and worse, it has often joined in the attack on the Catholic Church. [There is no such thing as the “American Church”].
