A growing number of lawmakers say Attorney General Eric Holder should be charged with contempt of Congress for his responsibility in the "Fast and Furious" gun scandal.
Critics claim Holder and other officials in the federal government tried to cover up the major gun smuggling investigation that went awry.
For more than a year, both House and Senate committees have tried to find out how the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms sent guns across the Mexican border in hopes of catching smugglers -- and then lost track of them.
The guns found their way into the hands of drug cartels and led to the death of at least one border agent, Brian Terry, and possibly scores of Mexican citizens.
Investigative reporter and Townhall.com news editor Katie Pavlich says the Fast and Furious case is a criminal ordeal that can't be ignored.
The details of the gun running and federal stonewalling are found in her new book by, Fast and Furious: Barack Obama's Bloodiest Scandal and Shameless Cover-up.
Katie Pavlich will appear on the May 14 edition of 'The 700 Club' to talk more about the 'Fast and Furious' gun scandal and how it's being handled. Check local listings here for showtimes and stay with CBNNews.com for the entire interview, Tuesday after 11 a.m. ET.
The House Governmental Affairs Committee heard from a parade of witnesses, including Holder. But many are not satisfied with what they see as stonewalling and the submission of heavily edited documents.
"There are things in those documents that you don't want us to see," Rep. Dan Burton, R-Ind., said at a recent hearing.
"There's no attempt at any kind of cover-up," Holder responded. "We're not going to be hiding behind any kind of privileges or anything."
"How many more border agents would have had to die for you to take responsibility?" Rep Ann Marie Buerkle, R-N.Y., asked Holder.
"That kind of question, I think, is frankly -- and again, respectfully -- I think that's beneath a member of Congress," he said.
Fourteen months after Agent Terry's death, his family filed a $25 million wrongful death lawsuit against the government.
Meanwhile, California Rep. Darrel Issa has drafted a contempt of Congress document against Holder for failing to comply with a congressional subpoena.
Gunwalker, Murdergate ping.
They are sure attempting to make the stupid “botched operation” idea stick.
Now if John’s Boner would just get out of the way......
Or they’re giving him plenty of rope to hang himself with.
So hold him in contempt, already!!! Let’s see the paperwork! DO IT!!
I vote for treasonous action.
I think they’re missing the obvious truth: “Fast and Furious” was malfeasance and treason.
If you are black, apparently you can kill US and Mexican officers with impunity —if people want to interview your subordinates and you send them overseas ad infinitum then that’s NO PROBLEM —NO CONSEQUENCES.
Or perhaps they make a NEW law, “requiring you to follow the original law” —oooooooh, naaaasty.....!
Lessay anyone here took steps that resulted in widespread LEO deaths —we could mail in blacked-out papers, and then just call it even...?
This is amazing.
Anyone who denies this is delusional and living in an alternate universe.

Simple solution. Bust the guy for contempt, then extradite him to Mexico. Mexico would *dearly* love to get their hands on him.
It is not either-— or.
It was a botched operation that has become a criminal scandal.
The operation was designed to get US guns into the hands of criminals, so that Obama could make the claim that we needed more gun control.
The operation was so bad, and so slimey that even federal employees could not keep quiet about it and live with themselves.
They started whistle blowing, and in the meantime some of the guns started being use in murders across the border, and at least one Border Patrol agent got killed.
Which brought on the political scandal. A scandal that Holder cannot get out of without admitting that it came from the top. Obama.
It was never botched because there was no provisioning for tracking the guns at all.
ONE rifle was tracked via GPS for 12 hours or so, and that was a case in which a desperate, low-level ATF employee literally bought a small gizmo at freaking RADIO SHACK and installed it him (her?) self.
It went dark in Mexico.
If you jump off a building and go splat that is certainly BAD, but your plan was not at all botched.
Correct. Obama can not throw Holder under the bus without throwing himself under the same bus. If Obama tells Holder, "get under the bus and I will pardon you after the election, even if I lose the election" this would have already happened. The reason that it has not happened is, HOLDER DOES NOT TRUST OBAMA.
"Contempt of Congress"? He ought to be brought up on charges of accessory to murder.
Nothing went awry,it was an INTENTIONAL scheme to allow guns to show up in Mexico from American gun shops so Obumbo and his anti Gun Nazis could Ban Guns in America.
More Media Crap,get the Facts!
Botched hell.
CBS was in on it.
They ran national stories about “smugglers” who were caught on our side of the border with hidden assault weapons.
In the story, the smugglers had purchased the weapons at Bubba’s guns and lawn furniture store.
Couple of those stories were featured in FR.
The media was complicit in the farce from the beginning until it got ugly, then they cranked up the cover up machine.
