Back then, it was Surfers vs Cowboys. Surfers would put beach on their hair and skateboard in the sun to achieve the proper look.
Homosexuality did not exist.
It existed, but it was entirely in the closet. No one would have known if this guy was gay.
But "beach" blondes did.
Not all of them! I remember the amusement of my family when the snarky little girl-princess from across the street came over to our house with a friend, rang the doorbell, and when my teenaged California surfer brother with white-blond hair answered, she said half-accusingly, half-triumphantly to her friend: "See! He bleaches his hair!"
Guess he'd been doing it every summer since he was two years old! {^)
