Wow—you’re right. The unionist would look stellar on this single issue, that’s for sure.

As would Newt, Bachman, Perry, Cain, and every other non-unionist conservative.

The reason I didn’t want to vote for Santorum is issues like these. Although I agree much more closely with Rick’s stand on these issues he is politically tone deaf and would probably have handled this like he handled the birth control issue. He has the ability to take a gift issue like gay marriage and alienate the middle. Handled well 70% of the people will oppose gay marriage. Handled like Santorum you end up with 60% of the people thinking you are intolerant and mean. Romney is not great on the issue but he loses no votes . In fact he will pickup votes from senior citizens, Catholics, and Hispanics because of his stated stand against gay marriage. Because he doesn’t create a Santorum-social-issue-media-feeding-frenzy it will not be huge issue for long or often, which means attention goes back to the economy...
