Everybody that I know that has or had a government job either still has it, or has a nice fat retirement with no worries. Almost everyone in the private sector that I know has either taken a pay cut, been laid off, unemployed or put out of business. They work harder for less with little saved and less mobility than ever.
I think it would be wise to take a government job, if you could find one.
