Romney needs to get small donors hooked / Weak passion seen for candidate

Wow, look at those enthusiastic faces surrounding Romney!

In outspending former Sen. Rick Santorum and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich en route to the Republican presidential nomination, Mitt Romney proved he knows how to reel in big-cash backers. But if he hopes to go toe-to-toe this fall with President Obama, the former Massachusetts governor needs to show he can fish for small-dollar donors, too.

“Now that the race [is] a two-person contest, Mr. Romney ought to be able to bring more small donors in,” said Michael J. Malbin, executive director of the Campaign Finance Institute (CFI), a Washington-based think tank. “But to do so, some things will have to change. He will have to gain more passionate support or more committed support as opposed to respect. He will have to make a real effort to find these people and go after them. This campaign at several points has said that it was doing so, but we do not see much evidence of that.”

Even if Mr. Romney goes after smaller fish, it’s not clear the GOP rank and file are eager to hop into the presumptive nominee’s net.

“Not unless I’m struck by a lightning bolt from on high,” said Emma P. Routh from Franklinville, N.C., who fired off a $100 check to Mr. Santorum in March, weeks before the former senator from Pennsylvania dropped out of the race. She said it might take divine intervention to get her to send a similar check to Mr. Romney.

His campaign sent me a request for a donation. It went straight to the garbage.

I don’t think any of those types will ever forgive him for the consequences of his fear of Palin.

I see that over the weekend Ron Paul secured the delegates from 2 more states. It’s getting closer and closer to forcing a brokered conventions.
I really don’t want to vote for Romney.

Weak passion seen for candidate

Ya think!?! But to win and rouse any enthusiasm, he needs to make clear that this Country cannot survive another four years of the kenyan commie usurper!

lol

No one respects Romney, they only fear an Obama 2nd term and fell once again for the media driven lie that only a moderate can win.

yep... I saw that too.

I personally think Paul is crazy... but who knows... maybe he is crazy like a fox :)

I will be casting my Texas vote for the nut Paul, maybe we can still deny Romney the nomination.

Understatement.

I’ll vote for him, and even take some time to debate with those who aren’t so inclined. But I won’t be giving his campaign one red cent. He had all the money he needed to buy the nomination and he can afford to spend his way to the WH too.

romney knows he didnt win anything, he just outspent candidates who split their votes. He better wake up real quick or he will be the laughingstock of 2012. Can anyone imagine losing to a communist fraud and forger usurper with $16T in debt, 20% unemployment, Record food stamps, $5 gas etc?????

"But if he hopes to go toe-to-toe this fall with President Obama, the former Massachusetts governor needs to show he can fish for small-dollar donors, too."

Ain't going to happen. Obomba has every taxpayer's support and has since he pilfered trillions of dollars from us (taxpayers) for his re-election slush funds. Romney, a man of no character or spine, nor his mormon cult can muster enough money to compete with the 100's of millions of American tax payers and the billions of dollars of support from his friends in the muslim brotherhood. Only a true Conservative could've garnered enough of the conservative demoncraps needed to beat obomba. Romney's no conservative and there aren't enough 'independents' to give romney a victory in November nor to justify giving him the Republican nomination but... because Americans are for the most part, ignorant, self-centered, non-repentant moderate/leftist narcissists hell bent on only voting for what's "in it for" them individually we are all screwed.

Four more years of obomba. Count on it.

JMHO

This is how moderates win in TN, 1 moderate, 2 conservatives run, the runner up conservative will not concede to the #1 conservative on principle, and we end up with the likes of Lamar Alexander, Bob Corker and Bill Halsam. ALL VERY RICH PEOPLE to boot.

Romney can buy this on his own. Why would anyone with any sense donate a dime to him?

Yeah, that's really going to be effective, once he debates Obama, and Obama points out that Romney did the exact same things as Governor that Obama did.
