Nah, it would be more like an election between Obama and Bernie Sanders, with Obama in the Sarkozy role as the "more conservative" candidate.

The underlying dynamic is the same although as you say to the left.

We American conservatives have little reason to like Sark but there is nothing to celebrate in his defeat. What we would deem “real conservatives” are a small minority of the French right.
