Late last week a State Department spokesman uttered The war on terror is over.
That utterance was followed up by President Obamas surprise trip to Afghanistan (coincidentally on the anniversary of the operation that killed Osama Bin Laden, or so we are told ). While in Afghanistan, Obama gave a political speech aimed at folks back home in America in which he echoed the sentiments of his State Department spokesman in essentially declaring Al Qaeda beaten.
Before we deconstruct this politically motivated fantasy, we should probably point out that we are not now, nor were we truly ever engaged in a war on terrorism.

Oh good, so we’ll be disband the TSA and all Homeland Security domestic surveillance then? Obama’s such a great guy.
Sorry, but it won’t be over until your ugly asses are gone for good..Then it will be over idiot..
The phrase always bugged me anyway. Terror is a tactic our enemies use, not an enemy itself. Someone once said that declaring war on terror was akin to FDR, on the day after Pearl Harbor, declaring war on aviation.
Great! No more airport patdowns, TSA will fold up, taxpayers will get a rebate for all the money we “used to use” fighting terrorism, our soldiers can come home, and Obambozo can go back to golfing every day while his porcine yet overly stout wife can go on her many vacations with her ensemble of 20+ people needed to keep her face from shattering camera lenses.
And all is well. I’ll put the milk bottles outside my front door and go to bed. G’ night, everybody!
So Obama will bow to the leaders of terrorism, say “America is sorry” and surrender to them under their conditions.
That is how he has ended the war on Terror.
Me too. The phrase is not only irritating, but I'm afraid it obscures the nature of the foe and the best way to prevail.
OK, so the “War On Terror” is over. Good.
Now, we can get on with the “War On Islam”.
Great! Now I can schedule our Bible study class for a trip to Pakistan and Afghanistan without worrying about any messy beheadings or stoning of the women for not wearing a hajib or burqa.
What fun it will be!
Well, the war on Terror is over.
Terror won.
Secular governments in Moslem countries are being replaced by theocratic “Islamic Republics.” This was Al Qaeda’s goal all along.
We’ll know the balance is completely flipped when the Saudi monarchy switches sides pays them off to buy their own survival. Alternately, look for a coup and the extermination of the Saudi royals.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see something along that line in next couple of years, along a continued spread of the Arab “Spring.”
