An 11th-hour Republican Vikings stadium plan that would have paid for the states share with general obligation bonds was declared dead late Thursday morning, and in its wake House GOP leaders pledged to hold a long-awaited floor vote next Monday on the stadium bill authored by Rep. Morrie Lanning and Sen. Julie Rosen. House leaders said they also hope to vote on their 2012 bonding bill Monday.
GOP leaders said that serious questions about using general obligation bonds to pay for the states portion of a new stadium for the Minnesota Vikings have forced them to drop the plan, which they floated as a possible end-of-session path just two days earlier. They will now move full-speed ahead with votes on a separate bonding bill and the stadium proposal negotiated between the team, city of Minneapolis and lawmakers, sketching out an end-of-session map that will involve lengthy floor debates and little negotiating with DFL Gov. Mark Dayton.

how many stadiums do they have already have in LA now?
I cna't wait for the Twins to get back to the World series....we may yet see the whole thing cancelled because of a blizzard..
They have the Coliseum which is being turned over to USC. The Rams and Raiders played there before they left town, but it wouldn’t get to first base with what is demanded of an NFL Stadium today.
The NFL is not a private enterprise in a free market society. It is a cartel in a crony capitalism society.
Pro sports enjoy antitrust exemptions that are not enjoyed by other private enterprises.
Keep in mind Roger Goodell got the gig as NFL Commish because he did such a fantastic job in his prior role. He was the guy who held the gun to the heads of local officials to get public financing for stadiums, under threat of franchise relocation.
That being said, where is LA going to come up with the money to build one?
I think the team to move to LA will be the Buffalo Bills. The economy and demographics of Western New York continue to crater. They only remain due to the loyalty of owner Ralph Wilson, and he’s 88.
And if the Vikings move to LA, who will notice? The only thing that will happen is the CA taxpayers will be further screwed by the politicians.
There will be a lot of MN residents relieved they aren’t stuck with this dinosaur of a stadium. However, the MN politicians will keep spending to make it seem like the new stadium was bought. [Where’s it written that taxpayers MUST fund privately owned sports franchises and provide them with stadiums?]
I don’t know but Buffalo Bills is probably a better fit for Toronto. Hell, they already play in Toronto once every year now.
Oh there’s money in L.A. Probably a billionaire will build a stadium. Or maybe by one of those Casinos.
One the feeblest arguments for this is that they need a new stadium so they can afford to field a better team.
Same argument the Twins made. The Twins have gotten worse ever year since they moved in.
same place they think they're going to get superhighspeedmoonbeamchoochoo $. (Uncle Sham's "stash")
Maybe Rush is right with his prediction all the concussion lawsuits coming soon will kill the NFL anyway when the next John Edwards comes to town .
Trial lawyers will get rich and pay to elect more dems and then the teams will fold one by one...and the governors can blame Bush, real capitalism, and global warming. goobermint loves to invest in failed business models- they never pay any price for being wrong.(taxpayers do)
