I've seen him talk in person. He's an oil and gas lawyer. He's not interested in running for higher office. The big problem with the RRC is that many of the most recent commissioners use the job as a stepping stone to higher office. Two of them were going to run for the US Senate seat currently held by Kay Bailey Hutchison, but Michael Williams decided to run for a new congressional district in north Texas instead. What the RRC needs is commissioners who will serve their whole terms and devote their energies to the RRC rather than running for higher office. We've got the EPA trying to usurp state regulators, and we need people who will fight them.
Due to the resignation of Michael Williams to run for higher office, there will be two open seats up for election this year. I've been really impressed by Greg Parker to serve the unexpired term. He's PhD candidate energy economist and currently a county commissioner in Comal county. He was at the Nueces County Republican Club meeting on Monday.
