Collins is retiring. Lugar may get beaten in the Indiana primary— replacements are rarely an improvement.

Snowe is the one who is retiring.

Collins is up for re-election in 2014.

No, I think you’re thinking of Snowe who’s retiring. Collins has a couple more years to make that decision.

Toomey replaced Specter in PA, so that was at least one improvement.

Ginsburg was confirmed 96-3, so I guess we have to give our guys some credit for growing some bigger cajones since then. Sotomayor got just a couple more Republican votes than Kagan, but at least she wasn’t as blatantly and obviously unqualified for the job.
