That sort of thing is already happening here. There was a time period last year when the hospital where I work had to approach local pharmacies for Oxycodone, Morphine, and several other ‘common’ drugs because we ran out and couldn’t get any from our suppliers.

Something weird is happening with generic drugs even in this country. Apparently the major drug companies have found various legal, political, and regulatory methods to shut down, limit, or just buy out the generic makers to decrease competition for their much more expensive patented alternatives. This has been going on for some time but seems to have become dramatically more effective lately.
