Rural kids, parents angry about Labor Dept. rule banning farm chores

A proposal from the Obama administration to prevent children from doing farm chores has drawn plenty of criticism from rural-district members of Congress. But now it’s attracting barbs from farm kids themselves.

The Department of Labor is poised to put the finishing touches on a rule that would apply child-labor laws to children working on family farms, prohibiting them from performing a list of jobs on their own families’ land.

Under the rules, children under 18 could no longer work “in the storing, marketing and transporting of farm product raw materials.”

“Prohibited places of employment,” a Department press release read, “would include country grain elevators, grain bins, silos, feed lots, stockyards, livestock exchanges and livestock auctions.”

So when are they going to ban non-farming kids from doing their chores? No more mowing the lawn, raking leaves, taking out the trash etc. etc.

This is all part of the progressive agenda. If they can kill the work ethic of children before it even gets started, it’ll be that much easier to make them dependent on the state.

But who’s counting?

This is also the long arm of the state creeping into family life.

Feds recognize that growing up on a farm turns out a hardworking, responsible conservative person. They don’t want that.........

Don’t be distracted. This is just the next level of attack on the FAMILY.

The family farm is the epitome of what the left hates:
an autonomous family, independent of the state, passing on the values of the parents to the next generation.

They’ve turned Eric Holder’s peoples’ children into helpless vegetables, now they want to do it to everybody else’ kids.

Ho hum...

More bureaucrats lusting for UN-Constitutional power.

I guess it’s time to name a Shaming-Czar, who would be responsible for publishing the names of such idiot-bureaucrats whenever their goofy ideas come to light.

The rookie in our White House won North Carolina (48,000 farms) by 0.3%, Indiana (59,000 farms) by 1%, Ohio (76,000 farms) by 4.6%, and Virginia (47,000 farms) by 6%. Between knowing the difference between the myth of “Hope and Change” and the reality of socialism and despair, and experiencing an intrusive and personal attack against their way of life, I can’t imagine rural voters staying home and allowing Obama to carry any of those four states in 2012. The nice thing about facing an enemy who is pure evil is that it’s hard for Obama to hide his belief that he should have absolute control over every aspect of our lives, a control extending to powers that most of us never imagined that an American politician would be permitted to grab.

Kids, defend your traditional, family-oriented rights with the long arm of a 12 gauge, which I'm sure you have leaning against the bed stand anyway. You will most likely be getting some professional help against the feds from your local sheriff's department, when it comes to that.

Really?

Rural kids are upset that they can’t work?

I don’t think many kids are that upset when they are forced to do recreational activities instead of productive activities.

Turning point was a long time back...we are now over the edge in free fall...how do I know?
Note the national uproar of millions over this ruling...
yep...crickets and a few bloggers and FR posters noting the lunacy...but no uproar...apathy...
...had this been tried even in the 1970s they would have been in full retreat by now.

When I was 14, I worked on a truck farm bundling green onions and radishes. I got paid by the bundle.

When I turned 15 I worked in the barn, washing the boxes of vegetables.

When I turned 16, I drove one of the trucks to the Safeway and other distribution centers to deliver the produce.

If this law was passed, I could not legally do the latter and wonder about the other two.

And they call this a free market. Ridiculous. I really hate government planners.
