Entitlement reform is on the lips of every Republican politician these days, and thats good news for Utah state Sen. Dan Liljenquist.
His partys leadership picked the first-term legislator to reform the state pension system last year. The plan he came up with along with the methodical way he crafted it won accolades even from his political opponents. A year later he took on Medicaid reform, with similar results. Now, Liljenquist is preparing a likely primary campaign against Sen. Orrin Hatch (R) in 2012, in his short political career he has two solid achievements to run on.
I have not decided what Im going to do yet, but I am very certain that somebody has to tackle entitlement reform in this country or we're not going to survive, Liljenquist said in an interview for the Fixs Rising series that looks at up and coming politicians. [Hatch is] a good man, hes never embarrassed the state of Utah, but I havent seen a lot of leadership from anyone on these issues.

Is SLC going to continue to support Hatch or will they switch?
What a win if the hoosiers boot Lugar and hatch gets to hook.
In PA we have to work hard for which ever pubbie wins today, we have got to retire Casey.
He has been there for 6 years and slept through the whole time.
The guy never went to work and when he did, he cast 100% party line votes. Casey gotta go.
It is going to be close, I don’t honestly know. Liljenquist has taken on the hard entitlement issues and has made a huge difference in Utah. America needs entitlement reform in a big way and the way to get it is to put younger politicians in who aren’t part of the Washington DC culture. Jason Chaffetz and Mike Lee have made big differences in the Senate and House, I think Liljenquist will follow their path.
Hatch cooked his own goose with his comments about FreedomWorks and the tea party. “Punching” someone in the mouth is not what we wanted to hear. And calling us liars is not especially bright either.
Liljenquist must get his organization going, Hatch has a lot of money. That being said, if Hatch wins the primary, I will vote for him, dragging my feet like I did for McCain.
He soon to be the next senator from the GREAT state of UTAH!!
We tried to get rid of McCain, but he's still there, causing trouble all the way down the line. ;0(
Scandinavians "R" Us are rooting for Liljenquist.
When we first came back to Utah fourteen years ago, Hatch was instrumental in getting the IRS to move more quickly in establishing our 501(c)3. At least it seemed like it happened because of his nudge.
In the meantime his love affair with “Crossing the Aisle” with Mr. idiot Ted Kennedy was more than I could stomach. And a bigger panderer does not exist in my opinion.
My grandmother was from Örebro, Sweden and my grandfather on the other side was from Thisted, Denmark so naturally we of Scandinavian descent must get on the bandwagon.
Funny thing now is that my daughter is the campaign manager for Howell. I don’t think he has a chance, however, Sunday dinners in Mount Carmel should be a blast.
That’s great. And Hatch has pandered greatly in the past 2 years. OK, who is Howell? I am so out of it...
Scott Howell is the Democratic candidate for the Senate against either Hatch or Liljenquist.
That’s right. I had a brain freeze. Thanks. :)
