No invention: Gore's Internet honor By: Patrick Gavin April 24, 2012 08:46 AM EDT

If you invent the Internet, you should probably get some sort of recognition, right?

Former Veep Al Gore is now getting a bit of credit for his infamous 1999 claim that “I took the initiative in creating the Internet”: He’ll be one of the first inductees into the Internet Hall of Fame.

The names were announced Monday at the Internet Society’s Global INET 2012 conference in Geneva, Switzerland, and Gore was placed in the “Global Connectors” category for having “made significant contributions to the global growth and use of the Internet.”

The group’s description of Gore states: “Al Gore, the 45th Vice President of the United States, was a key proponent of sponsoring legislation that funded the expansion of and greater public access to the Internet. Instrumental in helping to create the ‘Information Superhighway,’ Gore was one of the first government officials to recognize that the Internet’s impact could reach beyond academia to fuel educational and economic growth as well.”

Most Awards are BS anymore. Remember this gas bag is a Nobel laureate.

You are so right - none are respectful or honorable any longer - just moronic liberals patting other moronic liberals on the back for nothing.

Al Gore helped sponsor legislation that paid for the initial funding of what became the internet.

Yes that is true.

But it is not as if he had incredible foresight, he is obviously pretty stupid. He was just throwing money at something, and this happened to be one idea that worked.

Someone sponsors every piece of legislation that come down the pike. He just lucked out on this one.

I watched the movie the other night about Irena Sendler, whom Gore won over for the Nobel Prize, it made me even more upset.

I often wonder how the people like Gore, Clinton, or Obama can gaze upon their trophy cases or the plaques on their mantle and actually feel pride in their hoaxes.

Yes, there is no honor in winning awards any more. I always laugh when the teacher of the year is laid off because union rules say the last in must be laid off first. So leftists don't even have any respect for their honorees. It was just someones turn, so they awarded it to them.

Al Gore has won so many honors because the left is trying to make up to him for losing the 2000 election. In 2004, I asked my leftist friend why they didn't renominate Al since they all thought he had won the 2000 election. Her answer was "Al Gore is a flake". Of course my response was "And you wanted him as President"? I don't think she caught my sarcasm.

I don’t believe they have pride in these trophies. They only attain them because the masses hold them in high esteem. They don’t treasure these trophies themselves, otherwise they would have wanted to earn them honorably.

If they were honest and noble men of character, knowing that they shouldn’t even have been considered for these honors, they wouldn’t have wanted their names associated with them, they would have quietly asked that they be removed from consideration, if they had any sense of morality.

I believe these trophies sit in boxes packed away in the closet and are only pulled out and placed on display when needed as a prop to impress a visitor. Other than that, they don’t even care to look at these trophies because they don’t mean anything of value to the recipient be it Gore, Clinton or Obama.

These trophies will be remembered in their obituaries much more fondly than the men themselves recall them even today.

The Internet Hall of Fame? One would think that they would have to induct a number of porn stars to this hall of fame if they want to maintain credibility. Just saying.

“made significant contributions to the global growth”

and here I thought that referred to Gore’s girth.

They remind me of ROSIE RUIZ who tried to pull off a fake marathon win. The difference is that the media and the democrat flock join together to root for their guy who pulled off a hoax. It's truly bizarre.
