Gov. Rick Perry left no doubt this time. In Plano on Wednesday, Perry told KTVT-TV (Channel 11) reporter Jack Fink that he's backing Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst for Texas' open seat in the U.S. Senate.
"The fact is I'm a loyal individual, if I'm nothing else, and David's been a loyal supporter of mine," Perry said. "And I in turn am a loyal supporter of him and his task to become the next U.S. senator from Texas."
On Jan. 2, while campaigning in Iowa on the eve of the Iowa caucuses, then-presidential candidate Perry gave Dewhurst, who was standing behind him, a semi-endorsement. But it wasn't full or clean-cut.
Introducing some members of Congress who support him, Perry in January said "there's more of those members of the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Senate -- which David soon will be a member of, Lord willing -- that understand how important" it is to pass a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
This week, Perry was more explicit. As he made another stop pushing his new/old blend of state budget process changes, in a speech to the Plano Chamber of Commerce, the Republican governor laid it on the line for Dewhurst. Dewhurst obviously hopes Perry can transfer some of his popularity among grass roots conservatives to the lieutenant governor, who faces three major GOP opponents in the May 29 primary. At least a couple of them are attacking Dewhurst, the front-runner, from the right.

I endorse Ted Cruz.
Wasn’t Dewhurst instrumental in killing the anti-illegal bill here in Texas?
I think on that issue, but he and Cruz are pretty well to the right on.

Good for Perry......
Didn’t care much for Dewdrop dragging his Dad’s WW2 service into it trying to gain by osmosis.
I’ll stick with Cruz, although Michael would certainly do.
Ooops, forgot Williams is looking for something different now.
Voted on the link and Cruz is WAAAAAAY out front.
