A couple of years ago IL DOT approved asphalt repaving on the Dan Ryan Expressway. The first bad snowfall and it was cratered like the Moon. The inspectors and all the materials were American sourced. Corruption can happen anywhere. The Chinese will come round. Free markets are based on trust.
It ain't the Chinese I worry about.
It's the Communist Dengist version of Lenin's New Economic Policy (NEP) -- Lenin invented the term useful idiots to describe foreign corporation executives that he duped into pouring money and technology into the early Soviet Union.
He even let his citizens have a degree of economic freedom. They quickly had things going and saved the Revolution from another revolution.
Lenin died. Stalin took over and per Lenin's plan terminated NEP and I might add, scores of NEPmen.
Westerners have to be among the dumbest ever to believe that they are going to prosper at the expense of hundreds of millions of Chinese who have yet to benefit from the economy.
Among the things that brought on the Maoist "agrarian reformers" against the Nationalist Government was widespread corruption and too much foreign interference in the domestic economy.
The Chi_Coms are well aware of the possibility of revolution. Things today have got them really worrying.. I hope that the troubles installing new leadership sparks that revolution now.
Regardless.. these modern-day useful idiots are suffering the same fate as useful idiots did 100 years ago. But the Chi-Coms are smart.. they are seizing the property of the useful idiots a little bit at a time.
Then they'll pack 'em aboard a slow boat to America, penniless. And NO TARP for the idiots when they get back here.
