Who would have thought that the unelected officials in the Commissariat would be so out of touch?

What would they do if the US just doesn’t pay and continues to fly? Even if they think they can tax for the length of the journey over their airspace, what in the name of reason made them believe that they could charge for the “extra-territorial” part of the journey?

Give them a pause in airline service until they have an attitude adjustment. Let them take sailing ships. That will keep the riff raff out too.

Instituting what is in effect a tariff in a dark economy is not wise. Smoot-Hawley anyone? When flights are scaled back, bypass stopovers in Europe, and otherwise avoid this tax, Europe will lose massive revenues from trade and tourism. The other possible scenario is that other nations impose their own such tax in response and the economic mayhem becomes global. Hope this never gets done.

Commissioner Hedegaard has stated disingenuously that she will not compromise so as to demonstrate that “You can’t threaten a trade war just because you don’t like European legislation.”

Another overfed, bloated bureaucrat. They are so desperate to fleece money they don't see the hypocrisy in their words.

Connie Hedegaard holds an MA in Literature and History. She has been a member of the Conservative Party and active in government on and off since 1984, when she was elected as the hitherto youngest member of the Folketing, the Danish national parliament, where she sat for six years.[6] In 1990, she left politics to pursue a career in journalism. Over the next 14 years, she worked as a journalist at the newspaper Berlingske Tidende, took the post of Director of DR Radio News, and was the anchor for Deadline, a Danish TV news program.

Oh, those funny Europeans - putting a journalist in charge of their energy. What could possibly go wrong.
