Presidential hopeful plans county campaign stop

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich will bring his plans for economic recovery to the proving ground next week.

The former House speaker is visiting the 238 Cherokee Street Tavern in downtown Kings Mountain to meet Robert Bolin, the restaurant’s owner and an entrepreneur who employs a combined 45 people in four business ventures. Bolin says high business taxes are hobbling the economy.

“It costs me 35 percent of the profits every year,” Bolin said. “As a business owner, it’s one of the biggest problems we’re constantly facing. If we could control more of that money and I didn’t have to pay so much in taxes, we could hire more people. I would rather put more people to work.”

Gingrich will talk to voters during an informal Dutch treat lunch scheduled for 11:30 a.m. April 25 at the restaurant.

In addition to the 238 Cherokee Street Tavern, Bolin is the owner of Texsource, which sells supplies to the screenprinting industry, the Printin’ Press, a full-service print shop, and KM Sign, which specializes in signs, banners and vehicle wraps.

“Any time we can bring someone into Kings Mountain to promote business and I think has a strong passion for small businesses, it helps,” Bolin said.

Wayne King, the N.C. Republican Party’s vice chairman and a Kings Mountain resident, helped coordinate the Cleveland County campaign stop. King has appeared at campaign events with Gingrich in Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro and Wilson.

“Speaker Gingrich wanted to go and visit a local business — that’s where the rubber meets the road,” King said. “The reason I brought Speaker Gingrich to Cleveland County is because of the unemployment situation here.”

Unemployment stood at 11.1 percent in February, the most recent month for which jobless figures are available. In February 2011, 12 percent of Cleveland County residents were without jobs.

King said Gingrich will be in the area for a tour of Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties and may make other local campaign stops that will be announced in the coming days.

Gingrich’s local liaison hasn’t thrown his support behind any of the current candidates.

“I am not endorsing the candidate,” King said. “The party’s job is to showcase the candidates.”

Gingrich trails presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney by a wide margin, but he’s ignored calls to drop out of the race. Only he and Ron Paul remain to challenge Romney after Rick Santorum suspended his campaign April 10.

The 68-year-old Gingrich represented Georgia’s sixth congressional district for 20 years and served as speaker of the House for his last four years in office.

It is time for Newt and his supporters to stop kidding themselves and get behind Mitt(bad as that may be). And if you can't support Mitt and I know many of you can't then you deserve Obama. Mitt may not be Ronnie but he beats the hell out of Barry.

Perhaps you are not aware of how Newt Gingrich turned his entire life around after writing a documentary on Pope John Paul II.

Please read at least the titles of these links. Gingrich is a Christian. Romney is not.

Newt has changed dramatically. Here are some FR links about his conversion.

Maybe if this site did not bash the hell out of Perry,Bachmann and Santorum there would be no Romney too hate. There was a day Newt was just as hated on this forum as Romney is today. There are people posting they will write in Palin’s name. Palin herself says ABO.This forum has flipped off the deep end and made they’re own bed in hate for Perry,Bachmann,Santorum all because they were competition to someone that did not even run.It is sad and pathetic.Gingrich has no chance it is a waste of time.

There’s plenty of time to talk about supporting Mitt after the convention. He is doing quite well without Newt’s supporters, he has a whole damn world full of compromised conservative clowns behind him. We’re just over here fighting the honorable batttle for the future and integrity of our country. Too bad you can’t see that.
