Herman Cain Flops on Gingrich Endorsement, Says, ‘Let’s Get On With This’
ABC News ^ | 4-16-12 | Dover

Less than two months ago, Herman Cain, who was out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination, stood on a stage in West Palm Beach, just three days before the Florida primary and told the crowd, “I hereby officially and enthusiastically endorse Newt Gingrich for the president of the Unites States.” Gingrich had just come off a sweeping win in South Carolina, had the fundraising dollars pouring in and a financial safety net in billionaire donor Sheldon Adelson.

But on Monday Cain walked back his endorsement of Gingrich saying, “With all due respect, let’s get on with this, OK?”

“I even endorsed Newt Gingrich at one point because I thought that he had a shot. Well, not now. He doesn’t have a shot,” Cain said to Washington radio station WMAL.

A former Cain staffer told ABC News that Cain’s call for Gingrich to bow out isn’t surprising.

“He likes to go with his gut. Mr. Cain walked up to line of joining the establishment without crossing it,” the former Cain staffer said.

Cain refused to comment to ABC News Monday over this morning’s comments about Gingrich, but Gingrich campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond said the party is trying is lock down the nomination.

“The angle right now is for the party to get to a nominee as fast as possible,” Hammond said. “It’s up to Herman Cain whether or not he’s put in his application with the establishment.”

Cain wasn’t the only Republican candidate to...endorse the “not-Romney” candidate. Rick Perry also endorsed Gingrich when he left the race.

A spokesman for Perry, Catherine Frazier, told ABC News that he will stay loyal to Gingrich but will support the eventual nominee.

“Gov. Perry puts a premium on loyalty and he’ll back Gingrich as long as he’s in the race,” Frazier said.

IMO, Cain showed his racist roots when he made a big deal about the rock...that had NOTHING to do with Rick Perry.

Herman Cain has a record of riding the affirmative action train his entire career!

And I don’t forget.

He was never given a chance because of stupid stuff like a Gardisil

Infuriating, isn't it? He spoke of obama's war on the church before anyone. He spoke out against gays in the military. He stood up for the military and is respected by them in his state. And above all, we wouldn't be worrying about our Second Amendment rights with Governor Perry in the White House. The most qualified candidate with a record to back him up was kicked to the curb because he used the word "heartless". Yet Newt gets a pass on his soft spot for illegals. Perry dropping out was a huge set-back.

Yes ma'am. All we could see was the absolute contrast, like this photo shows: Honor, Hard working, Patriotic and it looks like, according to this column, the word LOYALTY can be proudly added to that list v/s Marxism and the true opportunity to stop it. That was the 'obsession' to "Perrywinkles".

My heart breaks for nation.

Cain fooled a lot of people, but if you paid attention to what Cain said it was OBVIOUS he was not a serous candidate and was just trying to sell his book. I think no one was more surprised then Cain that he was being taken seriously as a candidate. That Cain got as far as he did is a testament to the great job our public schools are doing on dumbing down the general population of the USA.

The new FR has become continuing education after public schools. The sheeple can't tolerate opinions different from their own. Debate has been replaced with the zot smackdown!

I think it's amazing they haven't figured out that their support was the instant "kiss of death."

Not sure what the new FR has become, but I do miss the old FR where political debate was possible. These days I avoid political debates here. Used to be fun and if you kept your mind open you would learn a few things too. Today not so much.

I didn’t know you were a poet. :-)
****************
So sorry,ng, meant to get back to you on this one.

Frankly, I’m not so much a poet- as a Renaissance man. You know, I have ancient Italian blood in my veins, so I carry with me the souls of conquerors, Machiavelli, DaVinci, Michelangelo.

So, I guess poetry just naturally happens when I speak- I can’t help it.

Hope all is well -:) -:)
