Administrators get convinced that professor “Joe” or instructor “Ann” might leave....so they have to give them a seven-percent or twelve-percent payraise. The thing is...if they leave....there’s someone else there or elsewhere in the nation....to fill those shoes....at the old pay-grade. If colleges simply ran their organizations like business operations, then their tuition levels would generally be twenty percent less than they are today.
